just been to rheumatology clinic as my RA is active, the nurse specialist has recommended Adalimumab, briefly read the leaflet and I read it can cause weight gain, has anyone else who takes this had weight gain, it is the one thing I dread,
weight gain on Adalimumab: just been to rheumatology... - NRAS
weight gain on Adalimumab
if you put that into the search box and filter for NRAS then all the past posts about it will come up.
Honestly, better not to read the leaflet! All drug manufacturers have to put in every side effect ever experienced as the ‘don’t sue me’ culture is now so prevalent. Some people will gain a small amount of weight on some drugs - doesn’t mean you will and if you do and the drug works for you then the benefit outweighs the risk of minor poundage.
If it makes you feel any better, over the past 34 years I have had all the Dmards and biologics and have never put on any weight on any of them even though, like you, when I read the blurb I had fifty fits about weight gain in the early days when I was younger and couldn’t bear the thought of it.
So, try Adalimumab and if it works for your RA then be really pleased and if you pile on weight and you really hate it then change drugs - no point being thoroughly miserable, RA does that by itself! All best and hope it works.
I am on it. Haven't gained any weight
I have been on it since 2006 with no weight gain. However, with uncontrolled disease before I was put on it, I was losing weight rapidly.
I have injected Humira for years and my weight is stable. I am active and eat a balance diet. I did lose weight until my RA was controlled but it has returned to normal now.
Was on it never gained weight
I’ve put on 2 stone in 3 months unfortunately with limited benefit with the injections
I found that it has increased my appetite feel hungry more but have learned to manage it well I’d say I’m half a stone over than my usual weight but I feel in myself like I did before the RA turned my world upside down. It’s like I’m in remission with the occasional twinge to let me know it’s still there but feel amazing!
I lost weight on it as it made many foods taste strange! Didn’t work for me either unfortunately.
I was on Adalimumab last year and didn’t gain any weight on it.
Hi, I started adalimumab last year after 2 years of absolute hell with my RA. Within a month I was almost back to ‘normal’ (whatever that is!). My weight is stable and although my hands are still weak it has been a game changer in terms of pain and inflammation. I’d say it’s worth trying - nothing suits everybody. Good luck!
second year on adalimumab although I didn’t gain weight it redistributed unhealthily around my middle, something to beware of
