Has anyone found weight gain with methotrexate and abatacept

Weight gain
I took Mtx for 7 years & didn’’t gain an ounce!
Yep.. when I started MTX I immediately gained about 10lbs even though RA wasn’t impacting my life too much . I was still very active doing classes. Then as my RA got worse and I tried different drugs I continued to gain weight. The biggest increase was elerzi ( etenacept) I’m stable now but 3 stone heavier. Boy is it difficult to shift . Steroids last year didn’t help

She’s off .. even on a bank holiday 😂😂
😂😂 x
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think this varies massively from person to person. Also depends how much your RA is preventing activity.
Yes massive weight gain. Starting biologic therapy soon so hoping to be more active 🤞🏼
Its weird some people lose lots of weight with RA and others gain loads. For me i gained, i think due to steroids and definately immobility and lack of exercise.
I got help at the local baths with disability lifts , initially went in in shorts and tops agreed with the pool manager and the weight came off again.
Its very very hard but dont let it build up further, i gained 8stone ........
Keto diet really helped too under my doctors supervision
Taken MTX for over 40 years and no weight gain.
Hi Magliona, I’ve been taking Abatacept since October & MTX for many years, can’t say that weight gain can be put down to the meds, I’ve had a year of very active RA which caused me to be less active than choice so I think a few pounds have gone on throughout lock down, don’t think I’m alone there. (also with the use of steroids which is far more likely to have been a contributing factor) .. re Abatacept My hair started to fall out so they upped my folic acid & I started to take collagen, which seems to have sorted that out.., now my RA is settling down I’m becoming more active which is helping me a lot & beginning to shift the extra pounds now..
Thanks everyone for replying. As many have said it depends on each individual person. I have been on mtx abatacept and low dose steroids. Unfortunately I’ve had to stop abatacept which I had been on for a year and had dramatically helped my arthritis. my ESR, which had been 40 +, my CRP which for a long time had been in 60 range miraculously went back to normal. I noticed that I was putting on a lot of weight despite being able to walk roughly 7 km a day and no change to my diet. I also developed chest pain and abdominal pains. I stopped the abatacept and am now on mtx and 5mg of prednisone. I had a great year on abatacept but hopefully I will not be too bad without it. Rheumatology nurse explained that weight gain might be due to mtx.
Yep but my Rheumy doesn’t believe it’s from mtx even though before I never had a weight problem
I have gained weight and I am on Abatacept
Stopped abatacept as developed sore tummy, ? Increased inflammation in bowel and chest pain. Lost weight as soon as I stopped and all other symptoms disappeared. I think abatacept is good for some but not for everyone. The same with other drugs, it’s a case of finding the right one.
