Dentist was open this morning. She's cemented the crown and post back in but doesn't know how long it will last. Said original tooth under my gum isn't that great. Not to have my Benepali today and talk to Rheumy on Monday for advice.
If it comes out again I'll have to be referred to the hospital as before to have it totally removed and a tooth added to my partials.
Going away 2nd June so I hope crown last until I'm back!

HiJust my luck it's Friday and my front crown has fallen out with the post still attached. It's been loose for a few weeks but dentist said wait untill the crown falls off.
He's already told me if the post came out too he wouldn't extract what's left of my proper tooth under the gum line and I'd have to have it done at the hospital due to being on Benepali and sulfasalazine.
I'm due to do my jab tomorrow. Has anyone had this problem and if yes did you stop your Jab and/ or sulfasalazine whilst you had no crown just a hole in what's left of your original tooth. I'm not asking for medical advice just what others have done in this situation. I'm going away 2nd June too so need it all sorted by then.
Why do these things happen on a weekend 🙄😞
Edit... Just spoke to a clinical pharmacist and to continue sulfasalazine but stop benepali. Try to see my dentist tomorrow if open and if not ring 111 to see if i they can get an on call dentist to sort me out. The joys of RA and it's meds. 😢

Can’t help with your question but it looks like you’ve got it sorted by yourself - can I ask- only because I’ve just had a crown fitted - did your dentist do a root canal before he fitted your crown and post?
I had a crown fitted last year and yes got the root canal before that, however years ago when I was young (20) I had a crown fitted, fairly sure didn't get a root canal and it's so far never given bother.
Yes I think so, it doesn't hurt at the mo but they're worried I'll get an infection as there's a deep hole there from the post coming out. The post is about quite long. It's about 20 years ago I had it done so lasted well.
Oh I had one done 30+ years ago and it has the longest post my dentist has ever seen. When you see it on an x-ray it looks bizarre. I think new chair side assistance are amazed. I hope you can get something done very quickly for it. You never want anything wrong with your teeth do you.
I had 4 crowns fitted June 1984, I know it was then because it was just before our first holiday abroad, I found out a few years ago that 2 of them have posts. I would like to have them changed but I'm worried that I might be opening a can of worms. There's no way of telling what condition my actual teeth, or should I say the bit of the original tooth that the crown is attached is in until the old crown is removed. Dentist may not be able to fix new ones.
I know it's a nightmare. I've never had good teeth, my baby teeth came through black as my mum was ill whilst carrying me and didn't get enough calcium or whatever. My dentist said she probably had some meds that were given in those days that rotted teeth. He's got another patient with the same problems as me and her mum was on the meds. They don't use them anymore. I've had 2 other crowns fall out in the past 2 years since RA diagnosed, maybe coincidence who knows. I had to go to hospital to have the remaining teeth under them removed and have partial dentures which I hate but hey ho.
I had the same problem with my front teeth 15 years ago. If you've got the money (£2200 then, £4000 now), get an implant to replace it ASAP. I had one done but a second one went just after I'd been made redundant during the 'financial crisis', so I waited 6 months. The damage was a lot worse as a result and the implant was more expensive and the gum around it had receded.
Hope you get it sorted Haz58, all I can add is that Chlorhexidine Gluconate mouthwash is brilliant for preventing an infection. Years ago, I had problems with crowns and I swear by the stuff.
It is a hard one and must I suppose depend on professional advice but the no one agrees !. I've just had surgery and was told by Nephrologist and Surgeon to keep taking Benapli and Azathyoprine as normal because the risk of swelling and a flare was greater than the risk of an infection as they bunged in intravenous antibiotics anyway as routine. For everyone. I've had a fixed bridge on an implant replaced 2 years ago because the tooth was knocked out some 40 years ago playing hockey and that's now the new treatment and was told to stop the Benapali but not the AZA. Anyway I hope you get it fixed soon the cost of a my implant and bridge was worth it but when anaesthetist asked me 3 weeks ago about false teeth I told him if you knock my bridge out, then don't wake me up because I'm going to be very, very angry. He laughed and when I came round said its ok teeth still look good.
Hi Haz, Oh no these things always happen when we least need them don't they! A couple of my old crowns have given up recently and I had to pay privately to get one sorted as couldn't be done under the NHS, the old root filling needed redoing! Dentist's also seem reluctant to take out a tooth now also if you're immune suppressed so have to be referred to Dental Hospital ..which is a very long wait and to time with starting/having medications but I can have a bridge afterwards. I hope you get it all sorted very soon. X
They managed to put it back in yesterday ☺️ they did say they don't know how long it will last though so I've got my fingers crossed it lasts until I come back off holiday in June. X
I had mine stuck back in a couple of times before it gave up, it lasted quite a long time over a year..so hopefully yours will too, I'm sure you will take extra care of it! Fingers crossed for a you too x
Why the hospital? I had exactly the same done at my dentist surgery All my dentist did was to ring my rhuemy dept for advice being on Benipali and Sulphazaline . I missed one Beni jab but continued with the Sulphazaline.
I had the samectrouble, had mine in for years and recommended 3 times then I actually broke the root it was fixed in, My dentistdentist was able to take it out it out so hospital needed for me , but was told it was an option if she couldn't do it. Good luck with yours
