I suffer with this occasionally.

I take methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine. Is this a drug side effect and does anyone else suffer?

Thanks.

I was prescribed Prochlorperazine for vertigo after episodes last year. I do get migraines as well for which this medication may also be used according to the PIL although my vertigo attacks were not migraine related.

My GP emailed me the exercises for BPPV after my overnight A&E stay where they diagnosed Orthostatic Hypotension. So lots going on and nothing very definitive although during this time I was having tests to rule out cancer as well and none was found but this muddied the waters a bit.

My own reading revealed to me that my chronic AI rheumatoid condition of Stills Disease can cause damage to the organs of the ear and this could be an explanation in my case. Who knows and we are all affected in different ways but there’s my experience for interest at least.

Wishing you good days.

I occasionally suffer with bppv but I don't take mtx so I don't think it is caused by the drugs.

Sadly I think BPPV is one of the joys of ageing…..of course some drugs may cause it as well…..as can anything to do with ears….but if you have spoken to yiour doctors about it & they don’t advise any treatment is necessary,….. I wouldn’t worry.

My husband doesn’t take any the drugs mentioned but was sent to a specialist physio by doing a few exercises nothing physical every day about 5 mins or less it’s kept at bay.

I've had episodes of this for years - started in my late 40s/50s, I think. I didn't develop RA and start taking DMARDS until 59 so I don't think that it's connected for me.

I suffer from BPPV too. My last episode was ‘ cured’ by a physio performing the Epley manoeuvre. The condition is caused by crystals in the ear moving from one side to the other rather than being centred. My first Epley Maneouvre was performed by a female doctor and a female nurse. The dizziness went away for a week or so. The doctor then arranged for a male physio to treat me. I had a 1/2 to 1 hour treatment each week for three weeks last Autumn and am still okay. I am told the Epley Maneouvre cures some people while others have varying amounts of time between Maneouvres. I was initially referred to ENT for the Maneouvre so this might be the best place for you to start. I don’t think the drugs you are taking affect it in any way.

Absolutely agree the Epley Manoeuvres is really successful. ……as long as you did & Ellenkay did & go to a qualified practitioner.

Anyone reading this…please do not read any of the DIY instructions that are around…unless done correctly it can make things a lot worse.

Sorry. My second last sentence should have read. varying amounts of time between episodes of BPPV.
