Hi. I am also 59. Was diagnosed with RA 41 years ago, and after many years of complaining of back and neck problems, ( 3 fused discs in neck and fusion in the SI Joints) I have now been told I have inflammatory spondylarthritis. Sleeping has been a nightmare for years as also have bursitis in both hips. I bought a bed topper with a 2 inch thickness earlier this year, which has helped enormously. I also use an orthopaedic pillow. My Rheumy actually apologised to me for the missed diagnosis!

Adalimumab is the generic name for Imraldi - it's a biological treatment for Rheumatoid or Psoriatic Arthritis. Have you been diagnosed with either of these?

Good morning oldtimer I have got wear and tear in my knees and hips and I suffered with my back since I was 16 as I am getting older the pain is getting worse I went to my doctor last week and he said I have spondy-losis and he said not much you can do part from taken pain killers and gave me two sheets of exercise to do. If the pain is the same next week I will go back. I had scan and that showed up wear and tear in my knees and hips. Thank you I will look in to this thanks

Me too. Started PT but was skeptical. Been at it for six weeks now and it’s really helping. Having lidocaine injections in lower back next week to see if I’m a candidate for ablation in lower back, argh! Also a memory foam topper on your mattress will help if it’s at least 3” thick.

Hello lupusereliative thank you for your message can you tell me more about the PT please I will go back to my doctor and ask him if they can give me injection also as pain killers do not help much and I suffer from stomach problems now with all the medication I am on. I have got a good memory foam topper also help a bit.

PT is very gentle to start off with. To strengthen you core muscles. I will try to post a pic of the exercises I am doing . Twice a day but you have to keep them up. It’s a long haul but I’m determined to do them. Also a 15 minute walk every day. It doesn’t have to be a fast walk, just at your own pace.

I was on pain killers for 2 years then pushed my GP for a scan and referral to rheumo. It was then that I had ankylosis spondylitis diagnosed. So I’ve just started with the biological therapy imraldi which means I inject it. I’ve now much reduced pain relief and sleeping comfortably is much easier. So pain killers are not the only answer. Maybe you should ask about biologic therapy too 😃 might work for you too

Hiya Babyboy12, welcome. I'm afraid to say that your diagnosis of spondylosis is different to TraceyDevon 's of spondylitis & as such the treatment differs. Biologics won't be prescribed, I’m sorry. Both conditions relate to the spine but spondylosis is caused by wear & tear, in the same way Osteoarthritis is, generally an age related condition. It is confusing with the names being so similar. So, I’m afraid your GP's suggestions for treating are correct, pain relief, anti inflammatories (NSAIDs) & exercise. I have cervical & lumbar spondylosis, treated with pregabalin, amitriptyline, plus cocodamol & etoricoxib (both also prescribed for my other condition Rheumatoid Disease (aka Rheumatoid Arthritis). I also have a daily exercise regime personalised by Physiotherapy. I think in some circumstances you may have steroid injections although I never have. It is important to keep movement going I’ve found. Swimming also helps, the buoyancy being kind on the joints.I hope whichever treatment is decided on it works well for you. It can be very painful so I’m empathise with it being untreated.

This link may be helpful reading medicinenet.com/spondylitis... It's an American site so there may be some slight differences in the main I think it defines the two well.

Thank you nomoreheels for letting me know. Never realised until you just said. I can't swimm and only have to do a bit of walking and I get out of breath as I also got bronchiectasis. Never ending to pain I do take cocodamols but I do not like taken to many pain killers as now my stomach is suffering from all these years of taken them. I will speak with my Dr and see what they say. I will look up on link thank you for posting it to me.

Easily done when conditions affect the same area but important to have info for the one you've been diagnosed with. Many here have more than one condition, it's a balancing act sometimes, what's good for one may not be for another.

Are you prescribed a stomach protector with your pain relief, something like omeprazole? It will be necessary if you're prescribed an NSAID too, especially if as I suspect you'll have to take them regularly to keep on top of the inflammation & pain so do ask if you're not prescribed one already. It might also be worth asking if you may use a topical anti inflammatory as an alternative with already suffering, I use diclofenac 2.32% occasionally, Voltarol is a brand name. It's not generally advised to use both an NSAID & topical but your GP will recommend what's best for you I’m sure.

Hello nomoreheels I had gastroscopy last wensenday as some food I can't swallow and got the results back why I was there I have got moderate erosive gastritis and had four biopsies taken I am on aspirin to thin my blood as I had 3 min strokes and I am taken Lansoprazole for my stomach and hospital said to take 60mg for 6 weeks until results come back. Even now when I eat my stomach is In pain and I feel sick. I will speak to my doctor to see if he can change my medication. I will ask about the NSAID to see if that's ok plus I am on so many other medications and I want to cut down. Thank you for your advice and messages. Its always good to get advice
