I’ve been on MTX about 2 years & low dose pred about 9 years , I’ve noticed a considerable change in my memory the last 6 months , anyone else experience this , I’m 64 in a few months so not really what I would call old to have such a bad memory, it’s got to the point that I am considering taking it up with my GP. Or should I tell the Rheumy ?

I would suggest talking to your GP, maybe even ask for a memory test. I've taken MTX for over 40 years and had no memory issues. It could be totally unrelated.

Thanks for the reply , I know pred can cause memory fog but I am below 5 mg so that shouldn’t be causing to much of an issue 👍

My husband was advised to cease Methotrexate by a neurologist due to issues with his memory - Methotrexate can cause brain fog but for him he was diagnosed with cognitive disorder - I suggest you contact your GP and ask for a referral to a memory clinic - my husband takes no Dmards now and just a low dose steroid since coming off Methotrexate - he was discharged by one RA specialist as he wouldn’t take the methotrexate even though the neurologist had written - he now sees a professor of rheumatology and is in remission - good luck and hope you get it sorted

After seven or more years on MTX I developed symptoms of confusion and anxiety. I told my RA team and they immediately changed my treatment. Advise your team asap and follow their advice.

Good luck and stay positive

It wasn't the prednisolone but the methotrexate that caused my symptoms of pre-senile dementia! Recovered after stopping it (for other side effects inclduing the serious effects on my gut).

Hi I think you should see your gp about this if you are really worried . It depends on how much memory loss you have most people going into their older years have little problems with some "memory loss" but it's best to get seen to put your mind at rest about it or stop your treatment uf necessary until you can see your RA consultant . Good luck hope it gets sorted for you
