persistent oral thrush

I've been on an increased dose of prednisolone since August last year. I've started reducing since January (tried before with a flare-up). I also use a steroid inhaler for asthma (and rinse afterwards).

I have frequent problems with oral thrush. Unfortunately the stuff that seemed to work best - the miconazole gel - has been unobtainable for months and I'm having to use Nystatin liquid which really doesn't work . The amount of liquid is very small and swilling it around the mouth four times a day just reduces the inflammation a bit. I can't take ketoconazole because of other medication.

Anyone any ideas how to treat the thrush?

I had Fluconazole antifungal capsules which really did work after strong antibiotics left me with bad oral thrush but not sure if it would be suitable for persistent oral thrush. Hope you can find something as it's really unpleasant!

hi I have the same issue and lichen planus but pharmacy can’t get anything other than nyastin, very frustrating, I seem to have an issue getting a lot of meds at the moment as I am sure everyone is.

For oral lichen Planus I was prescribed betamethasone tablets to dissolve in water and use as a mouthwash. It cleared it up very quickly.

I've had this on and off you a year or so. I've had Nystatin and Daktorin gel. Just been diagnosed with it again after corners of my mouth sore and cracking. I've been putting Daktorin on 3 times a day and it's clearing again. A pharmacist told me last year it can also be a sign of low folate but I had mine checked and my levels we're ok.

I've had lots of courses if steroid tablets and also had 2 lots of antibiotics in 2 months and it came back.
