joint flare in foot

note my diagnosis is Adult onset stills disease which for me manifests as RA.

In Monday I did the pre colonoscopy prep with a citric acid drink. Within hours of the first dose the big foot knuckle toe joint became incredibly painful and stiffer than usual. It still is this morning and I can’t walk on it or wear a shoe. My other joints are no worse than usual. Could this be the acid drink causing it? I believe acidity can affect our joints. It’s not swollen, just immobile and very painful, sharp not ache? Comments welcome.

Gout ?if I were you I’d ring the prep team and ask especially if you need to take again.

Gout was my first thought, especially with the link to acidic foods. Could you speak to the GP about pain relief for gout. I get eterocoxib pain killers when required, recently they travel changed advice on prescription and there is a higher dose one for gout. So I suspect they treat gout differently from RA pain.

Hi, I’m allowing myself one ibruphen and one paracetamol together in the morning and then mid afternoon. Then at bed time I’m applying volterol 2%+ gel. It’s hoping a little. It’s difficult to be objective following the fast, purge and colonoscopy process as feeling perky than usual and now I have hubby’s cold. The good thing is it’s 15 days until Thailand so plenty of time to get better.

How are you feeling?

Thailand sounds amazing but I’d definitely be taking more paracetamol and ibruphen. Once my father had some joint pain, I told him how many painkillers to take and a few days later he said I’d given him that big a scolding I’d scared the pain out of him.

I never take less than two paracetamol but I’m getting better at only taking eight on bad days.

Paracetamol seem to give me heartburn and I’m wary if NSAIDs for some reason. Paramol works well for me with codeine in it but I’m cautious of addiction and of course it causes constipation. Apparently my diverticulitis recently discovered could be due to using too many .

So far I have a cast iron stomach and can take most things... although I'm going to try to reduce my codeine intake to avoid the diverticulitis. Although the pain of your poor toe is maybe try two ibuprofen.
