Hi,Im due to have a Steroid Injection in my knee to hopefully relieve the symptoms of Osteoarthritis. Which is very painful most of the time, and can be very debilitating.
Just Wondering if anyone has had this done and knows how long it lasts before wearing off? Do they work? Are they worth having done?

Everyone’s body is different, but for me the steroid injections I’ve had in my knee have always worked. I have one in my tight knee every four months and it gets rid of much of the pain that bone rubbing on bone causes.
I’d say give it a go because unless you do you won’t know if it’ll work for you.
I’ve had it done twice, on both occasions it settled my pain down for a year. I actually was hoping for one in my left knee, which has severe OA -as well as bursitis and tendonitis. However my rheumatologist has referred me urgently to orthopaedic surgeon, and it could delay any surgery for 6 months, so he declined. Meantime my pains are excruciating,
I had an injection in one knee and could barely walk to the car park after it. Didn’t help at all. Thankfully I’ve had my first total knee replacement just 4 weeks ago now and it’s going well so far. Also I did have a very successful steroid injection in my shoulder recently and had immediate relief and return of movement. So I guess it shows how different it can be. Hope you get the relief you need from yours.

I've been having these for about 2 years now in both knees. My GP does them so I don't need to attend hospital. Mine last about 6 months. I'm at that point now and can feel it's nearly time to book my next ones. I recently read that you can't keep having them for some reason so will ask GP when I see him. I hope that's not true as I really don't want any surgery!
I’ve had them in the knees and they did help for about six weeks. I recently had one in my right hip due to bursitis and the relief was immediate but that’s down to the numbing medication that was injected first. Boy did I know it when that wore off but after a couple of days the steroid worked its magic I’m hoping it will stay like that I’m currently 3 weeks post injection. I would say go for it in my experience they’re a godsend.

They have with me but hip was very bad this time. It depends who does it but I wasn’t walking well at all and it was very inflammed. Mine was done by consultant at rheumy clinic. Might it suggest you plan accordingly and rest it as much as you can for at least a couple of days. Good news was even with numbing medication I was able to walk out of there.
I've had steroid jabs in knee,hips,shoulders and fingers . How long they last ? I do know they bring relief if not forever but the time they do is bliss.

I’ve had a number of these over the years. They have been really helpful in easing the stiffness and pain and enabling me to get back to normal for a while. I did notice that as time went on and my osteo got worse they worked for shorter and shorter periods of time. I would recommend trying them. My consultant had a magic spray which froze the area so I felt pressure and a bit of discomfort but no pain as such. Good luck hope you get a good result. Don’t be downhearted if you don’t get immediate relief it could take up to a week for me to notice the benefits.
