Constantly needing to blow my nose

I've had the sniffles for a good few months and never give them much thought, but they've gradually got a lot worse in recent weeks and having to blow my nose so often is beginning to get on my nerves. Anyone have/ had a similar problem, or know what the cause could be...perhaps related to a cold I had a few weeks ago?

Hi WB haven't heard from you for a while.Your nose blowing may still be a hangover from your cold. My partner is still blowing his nose going into 4 weeks after his cold started.

Has anyone mentioned a nasal drip to you ? Do you have a cough ?

Thanks Mm, no mention of a nasal drip...my nose is dripping enough any way. 😉🙂 I have a lung condition so occasionally cough, which did get worse when I had the cold.

Many biologics have side effects listed of sinus issues. Could it be that? Seasonal? .. I rarely blow my nose from May to October then October to May I do quite a bit. Maybe just you’re taking a while to clear your cold. Hope it settles.

That's a thought, I had a sinus infection with Baricitinib not long after I started taking it and have since had occasional sniffle spells. I stopped taking it about 8 months back but restarted it a week ago, so that along with the cold be the problem. With any luck it will clear before too long.

When Mmrr mentioned 'post nasal drip' in her reply I presumed it was some sort of medical tube or whatever you stuck up your nostrils to manage a runny nose. ...obviously not! 🙄😊

Hi W/B if its been going on for awhile now & getting worst you may need a nasal spray &antihistamines. I have a nasal drip along with perennial rhinitis, deviated septum & have to take them daily & they really help cos it,s such a pain constantly blowing & having to always need tissues with you!!! If your nose gets sore a little vaseline around it helps sooth it. :)

If it doesn't improve in another week or so I'll try something. Can the things you mention be bought over the counter?

Not sure but the ones I use are citirizine hydrochloride antihistamine & nasal spray is mometasone furate. Yrs ago I used to have beconase spray & I know here it can now be bought over the counter. The a/h check the ingriedients on over the counter ones, good luck hope you get relief asap :)

Thanks Chrt, Hope I can get something over the counter as I don't want to contact my GP if I can help it. I'll pop into my pharmacy early next week.

It could be as simple as hayfever. Friends of mine say they are suffering now and one who has never previously had hayfever.

Don't think I've ever had hayfever, but there's always a first time as I said to Gnarli.

To echo lupus_01 it could be a hangover from your cold plus hayfever. I've been snivelling for a couple of weeks now because there's a veritable floral orgy going on out there. Massive amounts of katkins, oil seed rape etc are busy flinging pollen around and my nose doesn't appreciate it at all 😂

Don't think I've ever had hay fever but there's always a first time I suppose. It's probably related to that cold, and after an 8 month gap, I've just gone back on baricitinib which can cause sinus issues, apparently.

'Hayfever' has just started here. There is lots of pollen around with the avenue of lime trees nearby pouring it out and lots of lovely looking blooms on the shrubs -camillia, magnolia, winter jasmine. I find that I have to start medication for 'pollen allergy' much earlier now than I did years ago.

And yours may be on top of excess mucus production after the cold?

And for those who haven't come across it before 'post-nasal drip' is when the mucus keeps appearing from the back of your nose and drips into your throat!

Hi there

I was on biologics for last 9 months and noticed that nose would drip without warning which could be a bit embarrassing.now have stopped Benepali problem has stopped!Very odd side effect, but was the only one.so continued until recently, but as Benepali did not work for me now on JAK which so far has no side effects and seems to be working already.

I've had one or two embarrassing moments with it too. Funny that, I think it's a JAK inhibitor thats giving me the problem, or at least contributing.
