When to resume MTX

I have had a bad cough (not Covid as tested several times). Saw GP as I could not shake it. He prescribed antibiotics which I finished yesterday. I still have a bit of a cough, nothing like as bad. Should I resume MTX and see what happens or should I go back to GP? My arthritis seems to be getting worse, a lot more pain, hence the eagerness to take MTX again

many coughs can linger long after the infection has cleared. My rheumatologist has always said if I feel well in myself after taking antibiotics then I can restart. I’d perhaps phone your team and check

Sounds like restarting your methotrexate would be better than waiting hoping that your body produces more antibodies to get rid of any lingering infection. As you know, it takes time to build up your methotrexate levels again.

The mucus you produce as defence against bugs often lingers on and isn't necessarily a sign that the infection hasn't cleared.

if in doubt call a medic! I find coughs linger now far more than when I was younger the infection may be gone but the cough has not.

It’s not the cough that carries you off it’s the coffin they carry you off in my dad would say💐
