Adalimumab?

I’ve been reading posts about Adalimumab and I’m a bit confused. It seems to be called a few different names and also seems to be used alongside Methotrexate or something else. I will only be taking it on its own as I can’t take Methotrexate. Is anyone else using it on its own?

Humira is one other name for Adalumibab. I took it for a while, as like you I am not able to take MTX.

Taking MTX in a small dose alongside adalumibab is said to increase the efficacy. But , many people find that it works just fine on its own.

This NHS website explains about adalimumab and it’s different names. nhs.uk/medicines/adalimumab...

The name Adalimumab is like a generic name for a drug and the other names are brand names (similar to Ibuprofen being the generic name and Cuprofen and Neurofen being brand names).

All biologic drugs are proteins therefore your body can make antibodies against them therefore they tend to work slightly better and for longer if you take something along side them. For most people this is methotrexate but when my daughter and I took adalimumab we couldn’t tolerate methotrexate so took leflunomide with it instead. Some people do just take it on its own. Might be worth having a discussion next time you see your rheumatologist.

Hi, I am on this medication and not with MTX either. I am on Sulphasalzine with it as had problems with MTX. I do hope it works well for you. I have just had my usual delivery of it today. x

thank you. I was on Sulfasalazine but it stopped working. It’s good to know some people are only on Adalimumab on its own. Thanks again.

Thank you for your reply. You are all helping me so much.

I use it on it's own for psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis. It has helped ease my joint and tendon pain (to a manageable level) and has cleared my skin completely. It has really helped - been on fortnightly injections for 3 years now. xx

Thank you for your reply. You are all really helping me. I think I’m still in shock at having such a wonderful appointment with my new consultant. I was so used to having to fight my old one . Not physically mind! Then I was a bit worried when I read about people also using Methotrexate alongside it.

It is great when you get a good consultant. xx

hi. I’m on adalimumab under the brand name imraldi and I use it in its own for AS treatment. I had a lot of reservations before starting on it due to fear of many possible side effects however I’ve now been on it a year with no problems and my pain is so much better, in fact my neck pain has gone! Also my disease activity has dropped loads so things are looking much brighter. Best of luck x

If I have the same response as you I will be very happy. I have to say I was worried when I noticed so many people were also on Methotrexate as well . I can’t take that anymore because of my awful stomach problems with it. Such a relief to read it can be successful on its own. Thank you.

yes, I am injecting Humira in its own. I have been for years and had no side effects and I am in clinical induced remission.

that’s wonderful, thank you. It’s such a relief to read it is successful on its own. So pleased it’s working for you.

I tried Imraldi, which is one Of the other names by that Adalimumab is known by. I was taking it on its own.

Unfortunately it didn’t work for me and I had to go back on Rituximab again. But I hope it works well for you.

I’m just using that. I also couldn’t take methotrexate due to kidney disease and severe gastoparesis following MTX. I have my infusions once a month.

hi , I have been injecting adalimumab for 8 years on its own to suppress the symptoms of chronic psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. At first it was under the brand name humira until the contract was released and other brand names could make it for a cheaper price hence why it’s brand name differs I now take Imraldi which is another brand name of the same drug !

I have had no problems injecting all these years but have recently started methotrexate along side as inflammation bad xx 😘
