many of us have issues with our feet leading to the need for comfortable shoes for all seasons. No doubt we’ve all tried the usual suspects, Hotter, Reiker, Vionics and many more. Following a severe muscular leg and foot injury I’ve developed Enthesitis in my ankle and combined with the RA in the ball joint of the foot and poor gait from RA in knees and hips my footwear options have become very limited. Sketchers arch support were recommended by my physio and they work for me. Colour choice is often limited (especially in store and who with sore feet can shop online for footwear) but there are great websites selling fancy laces to brighten up any shoe or trainer which helps you to feel a bit better about having to wear comfortable shoes. Hope this is useful 👞

sore feet, difficulty with shoes
I have a pair of Skechers that are 3 years old that I’ve worn a lot and often washed in the washing machine. They’re a bit tired and limp now (a bit like me yesterday and today!) and don’t give me enough support. I must get another pair.
Slip on canvass sketchers work for me with my bespoke insoles but they are pricey, I git my first sketchers arch support this summer (couldn’t walk at all last year due to leg injury not RA) and they are plain white but I’m hoping for red or navy for winter.I say ‘hoping’ when really I’m wishing for miracles and heels again .
Hi!
I have used this company for shoes and found them to be very good.
I was very interested to read that you have developed Enthesitis in your ankle. If you don’t mind would you share your symptoms with me?
I have had an ongoing problem with my left ankle for over 5 years. When googling, in desperation one day, I came across Enthesitis and at the risk of becoming a hypochondriac I wondered if that was the problem with my ankle.
I have had: an ankle arthroscopy; 6 steroid injections into the ankle, the last 2 being done in theatre under anaesthetic so that the surgeon could target the exact spot more accurately; X-rays; MRI scans; and the latest was a radioactive Spect scan. I have an appointment in just over 2 weeks time to find out the results and hopefully my surgeon will have a positive way forward.
In the past he has mentioned an ankle fusion and replacing torn tendons, but I think he is baffled! On the X-rays and scans inflammation can be clearly seen around the subtalar joint.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
Hello, sorry to hear of your ankle issues. Note my diagnosis is Stills Disease which manifests as RA for me. Diagnosis given at 17, now 60 and as it was monophasic I’ve been drug free since mid 20s except for pain relief and limb support. I have damage to most joints, pain and swelling etc and still experience afternoon fever, sore throat, headache etc. I have other AI things like Lichen Sclerosis and Interstitial Cystitis. It’s possible I have Raynauds and Sjogrens. My leg injury occurred October 2020 whist walking. Unexpectedly the soleus and gastrocnemius ruptured. Thinking it was just a strain I sought no help. Two weeks limping on big toe joint in agony caused bursitis. The pain was intense and I could barely walk. I can’t use crutches due to wrist pain obviously.
Long story short =
May 21 scan
Nov 21 first physio
July 22 final physio
Still in pain
Still limping
Physio said Enthesitis.
Symptoms
Extreme tenderness in soft tissue where it joins the bone.
Numbness
Pins and needles
Feels like red poker
Feels like whole leg wants to give way
Feel like electric eel inside
Aches deeply ( also have tendinitis)
Whole foot is stiff and immobile
Shoes are an issue, walking with a limp possible with brace for about 30 minutes
Standing limited to 5 minutes (?)
Can’t sit or lie comfortably as ankle is constantly aching, red hot, Ice cold and swells in this heat.
Sure this is no good to you at all but I feel better for sharing 😀
I find Skechers super , our nearest store is in Southampton.
Love Sketchers especially the Arch fit ones, so comfortable.
