Jak inhibitors

Hi, I’ve been on jak inhibitors for about 3mths and I’m experiencing my heart racing/palpitations. I’m prone to depression but this feels different? My joints are great, no pain etc. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks!

Hi. You haven't said which jak inhibitor you’re on but depression or not anything untoward should really be checked by a health professional especially as these are pretty new drugs. If you were going to get side effects I suspect they would have occurred sooner than three months but you may have something else you’ve cooked up going on! Better to be safe…..

Best of luck and get sorted out soon!

Thanks! I’m on Rinvoq, it has a long name but I can’t remember it 🙄I’ll get in touch with my gp and see what they say 👍

There are research reports on the jak inhibitors and cardiovascular problems which are starting to come out of the woodwork so def get in touch with medics who know the drugs you’re on and can advise. All the best.

I’m currently under investigation for palpitations and on a JAK. May or may not be related in my case. Time will tell….

Interesting I’ve been experiencing a fast heart beat recently but have had an infection which it had been put down to. Due to the infection I haven’t been on my Baricitinib for 4 weeks which was the main time I experienced it. Back on Baricitinib now and still been getting an elevated heart rate. I wonder if it’s linked? I particularly notice it when I’m sleeping and have been woken a few times because of it and my heart rate has been around 100 (which I know is not very fast) but mine is usually 70.

I started Baricitinib end of January.

It’s the fact that it’s quite fleeting? It’s horrible waking up in a panic! Maybe it’s menopause, so many things going on at the moment 🙄

I had issues with Benepali so I spoke to my RA team who then advised. So worth calling to talk it out.

I am on benepali and a few time I have had palpation and then for a few mornings my heart beat was 50 bpm instead of 70 bpm. I have not sought out the rumey nurse though. I am going through a flare at the moment and everything is hurting. I think it's all the stress of my partner been given bad news with cancer. I also have a water infection and now am on antibiotics for 3 days.

Wow this is new to me, I was put on baricitinib think that's the right spelling, instead of rituximab during covid because it was a safer alternative but had to come off of it because of high liver enzymes but I was also having palpitations but I put it down to stress.

I've been put on medication for anxiety. I'm wondering now if this is jak related instead. 🤔
