Covid and AV treatment for clinically vulnerable

I succumbed to Covid 8 days ago.

The day after the evening had positive LFT, I phoned 119 as directed on NHS inform. I ordered the PCR tests and then phoned my health board Covid line. The clinician prescribed Paxlovid to be started straight away, they were available at my pharmacy the same day. I didn’t start them then as I had a migraine and was reluctant to mix it up…. I did start the following day, and the meds caused some side effects, as described and the change in taste is quite unpleasant. It worked though, I am now testing negative.

I live in Scotland and the system works really well. The Covid clinician advised me to contact Rheumy to advise them, which I did and they called me back too.

I can only thank and applaud the system, the NHS is an incredible service we really must keep and support. Pay them more, whatever it takes to keep both the service and the wonderful people who make it their business to look after us. Utmost respect and thanks.

I'm glad to hear you got the help you needed and that you're testing negative now. I couldn't agree more about the NHS, it's a fantastic service and I hope it will always be there for us.

I’m glad you got the paxlovid it worked well for me too. I was advised to stop my mtx for two weeks which I did. I only managed to take three days of paxlovid as I was very dehydrated due to diarrhoea which put me on the bathroom floor for two days another side effect 🙄. I was also unfortunate to get a rebound infection with Covid five days after testing negative so watch out for recurring symptoms. Hope you feel better very soon.

I had read about rebound infection, so am testing daily for a while, just in case.
