Hi guys, I'm still struggling with that E,Coli infection from all of last year despite numerous antibiotics! Because of the infection I've been off my methotrexate injections now since September so I'm now really struggling, mostly my hand, wrist and ankle joints so my mobility is really impacted now.
As someone here suggested months back, I've been on a daily antibiotic to try and minimise symptoms until I get to Urology. I already know from Rheumatologist that I already have some kidney damage and latest is, I have a Ultra Sound Scan on Monday. Has anybody been in this position and did the E.Coli eventually go?
Any help or info much appreciated M x

I know nothing about treatment for ecoli..but a friend used to have regular infections & she reckons garlic in everything got rid of it for her!Worth a try?
Oh Marie, I'd no idea you were still struggling so. It's been such a long time now & I’m concerned about you saying you have some kidney damage. I'm no help I’m afraid but popped on to say I feel for you & send a (very gentle) hug. Will you keep us updated? x
Like you I had infections for over a year. Was on antibiotics non stop. I finally got to see a urologist and I had to be in hospital on a antibiotic drip for seven days. It’s the only way to treat it I was told. A bit boring but read a lot. That was over a year ago and have had no infections since. Good luck. I was relieved to get it handled as with RA infections really are worrisome. 👍
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have a scan on Monday then I need to wait for a follow up appointment. I just need it over with and back on my meds before my RA gets much worse. M x
I had four uti's last year with e coli being the culprit each time.I had four within a period of four months was given different antibiotics.Nurse got in touch with Urology was told to try me on Hiprex known as Methenamine1g twice a day that was last October had no infections since. On waiting list to see urologist with other bladder problems.
My UTI which resulted in 11 lots of antibiotics a scan et etc was down to Ecoli. Anyway I've been prescribed a medication called Hiprex and its worked. I been free of infection now for months only problem is it tastes vile. I'd never heard of it before and it was given by hospital consultant. I drink about 3/ 4 pints of water/squash a day and that helps. I do have CKD but had that before the UTI and to be fair most antibiotics are dosage changed for that. If I were you I'd ask to be referred to a consultant and microbiologist as not all UTI's respond to all antibiotics and I could have swallow gallons of at least 2 and nothing would have happened. I think Hiprex may be available OTC and its fine with CKD with a function under 30 GFR but you should check with your GP first,
