Benepali Injections Issues

I have posted in recent times about having more issues doing the once weekly benepali injection, my right hand pain/dexterity has got worse. Find it bizarre that this is prescribed for people likely to have Arthritis dexterity issues! Apart from time holding the pen & waiting for the 2 clicks etc, then stinging.

But I’ve now noticed with me, it seems to work better on one thigh than the other (who knows why with me😭) & I wonder if anyone else thinks you could do the same thigh every week? Has anyone tried that? I will add it to my list, to ask the Biologics nurse in early February, at my phone appointment.

I have a feeling they’ll be reluctant to take me off benepali.

Ask to swap to syringes as I found it hard to use the pen and its so much easier and a lot less painful. The needle is as fine as a hair and its much better.

Because I'm right handed and as you say the benepali pen isn't the easiest to use i inject in the right hand side of my tummy every week. I dont ever get an injection site reaction (touch wood) and I just pick a slightly different spot on the same side. Never had a problem and I've been doing it for months.

I never get stinging now. I used to when I used my thigh but got very large swellings. So now I use stomach always, no pain and no reactions. It might be worth speaking to your specialist and get syringes prescribed. It is challenging holding it for 15-20 secs before withdrawing

I found that holding the pen for the clicks difficult, then had to come off it completely. I found that it became incredibly painful to inject after a while. I used emla cream and ice to numb the area but bot were no good. It got to a point that I was dreading injecting because of the pain, so stopped using it completely and on different medication now.

It took a year and a half to work, but I stuck to Benepali as it gave me no real side effects. It works like a dream now. I alternate thighs.

I changed from etanercept to Adilimubab about 10 weeks ago. It came as a pen and I had real issues using it. I spoke to my rheumatologist and she changed my prescription to syringes.

I use my non dominant hand to do mine as half my fingers don’t work on my other. Have you tried doing it in your tummy as I find it much less painful though there is still a sting but it’s worth it for the results.
