Afternoon my lovelies, I hope you are all well and had a lovely Christmas.
I have a very random question to ask and apologises in advance if it is something really simple. For the last few days I have been experiencing excruciating pain in my back to the point where even a hug from my daughter is making me cry. I thought it was a muscular but my rib cage is so sore to the touch that I am struggling to even do anything. The pain stems from my neck all the way down to my back and the rib cage is very tender. I have taken pain relief, but curious to know if this is related to arthritis or something else.
Thank you again in advance.

I agree with Sylvi, I would definitely get medical help. It could be anything but it isn’t right so a quick trip to A&E - or a call to 911 or whoever it is you call first - would put your mind at rest.
Thank you for the messages. I am at present in bed drugged up on Co-codamol. I have left a message with the hospital helpline so hoping someone calls me tomorrow if possible x
I get costochondritis which varies from uncomfortable to full blown cant catch my breath because its so painful. I find where the ribs insert into the spine on my back, my sternum and lower front of ribs is where it really gets going.
Always best to get it checked, I do find with RA I get random pains. Christmas eve I couldn't lift my right arm due to severe rib pain but it went the next day 🤷♀️
Glad to hear someone else gets ‘random’ pains. Marionfromhappydays, I thought it was just me, so weird isn’t it how they suddenly arrive then just as suddenly go away. What is it with our bodies.
Thank you so much for the reply. I managed to sleep only to wake up at 3am in agony. I literally had to roll out of bed like one of the teds lol. No reply from hospital and as you can imagine 119 was super busy. It is slightly better today but only because of the pain relief. I have never even heard of this before so its all so new. How I love RA, its forever giving me something I do not want...maybe if I wished for the winning numbers in the lottery it might just help out 😆
I have ankylosing spondylitis and this is one of my worst areas. My ribs are constantly inflamed and stiff. I only have 0.8cm chest expansion. Last week I bent over to get food out a delivery crate and felt a snap. Been in severe pain since. Did similar 3yrs ago doing a yoga stretch and fractured my rib, I’m certain I’ve done it again. Same spot, same pain. It does sound like costochondritis, take regular nsaid if you can. I find heat helps mine. Contact 111, when mine is severe I’ve been given zomorph and oramorph
Thank you so much for the reply. I will hopefully get in contact with the clinic nurse this week and see what they suggest. My hands, knees and elbows are already hurting and now add this to the spice mix. It definitely is the season of giving. Hope you are well and keeping safe.
