Chrons and MTX tablets

Has anyone on here who suffers from mild Chron's Disease with a lot of dietary issues taken MTX tablets? I ask because, from next week, I am going to be switching from pens to tablets. Due to side affects I sometimes have to lower my dose for a couple of weeks and it is such a waste of pens doing this. My RA consultant isn't happy for me to have a lower dose pen and top up with one or two tablets as required because it could be confusing, especially for pharmacists, (I explained it to my own pharmacist who understood) so I have agreed the trial. Bit nervous about it now having read about the nausea issues. I would welcome any comments. I'm just getting cold feet I guess and I know that I can revert back if necessary! I'm wondering whether to ask for, perhaps, just two weeks of tablets initially. I'm lucky in that my GP has shared care and prescribes for me, following the RA department's instructions, which makes it easier. Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

That sounds very patronising of the rheumatologist to think that other people couldn't manage a combination of tablets and injections. I would pressurise him into reconsidering, saying that you have talked to the pharmacist and they are supportive and on the ball.

I will see how it goes OT. He's such a pleasant man and I don't like crossing him but if the tablets don't work for me I will make contact with the Department and try again to get my point over. I appreciate your reply.

I don’t have crohns but I do have colitis. I inject methotrexate because of the tablets causing nausea.

I take 25mg MTX. I take in the evening after my main meal if the day and if I do get side effects I seem to sleep through them. Early in the pandemic I had to hold off whilst hubby waited for his PCR result. He got it early the next morning and thankfully was negative. So I took my dose that morning, I ended up very queasy and exhausted and went back to bed and slept for 3 hours. Have had in the evening as usual since and been fine. I also take the 5mg folic acid 6 days a week

Thank you Maureen, evening seems to be the way to go. I will start trying the tablets this coming week. Glad your husband's result was negative. Take care.

I havs always taken mxt in the evening as I was told I would sleep through any sickly feelings. I have never had any nausea in 19 yrs of taking mxt. I hope you are the same.
