I'm sorry to hear that you have had a flare recently. Some other people have also reported flares after their vaccines, but others have had no problems.
I had a flare after my first but not after the second when I just had a sore arm where the injection was. (My granddaughter was absolutely wiped out by her first ,but not the second and she doesn't have Rheumatoid Arthritis.) It does seem to vary enormously and it's difficult to tell if the flares are directly related yet.
The vaccine is only stimulating part of your immune system to produce antibodies, and other cells which will recognise the Covid 19 virus when it gets into our systems. In view of the fact that we may well die from Covid 19 infection, I would rather risk having a flare.
Hi thanks for the swift reply. Unfortunately seeing a GP let alone a “Rheumy team “ is almost an impossibility here . If I try to see a GP I’m immediately told it will be a telephone appointment and if I’m lucky a referral to a consultant in 12 months time !
That's awful! I always get a ring back from the rheumy nurse on the same day, was called in for a f2f nurse appointment when I was struggling during summer 2020 and had one with the consultant/registrar last December - next one hopefully this December.
Perhaps you should move house! It seems to vary enormously...I phoned my GP surgery with a query about my medication for my asthma on Thursday morning. The 'advanced nurse practitioner' phoned me an hour later, took a history and told me to go straight to the surgery. She took the history in more detail, examined me, did some tests, changed my medication and told me to ring again if there was no improvement and anyway in four weeks.
I can still get a phone call back from the Rheumatology specialist nurse the same day too Monday to Friday as long as I leave a message in the morning.
Commonly people feel pain in their arm and body. Few of them are getting fever. You contact your rheumy team and ask for a review, because you have continuous flare up of rheumatoid pain throughout your body.
Morning 👋I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having flares.
I must admit, I did wonder myself about the Covid Jab, as I was 3 years feeling fine on 10mg of Mthx. I had no reactions at all to the jabs (i.e sore arm, flu like symptoms etc like some people I know) BUT since having them I’ve had 2 major flares (since July) for which I’ve had to have steroid injections and my Mthx has now been put up to 20mg.
Maybe it’s just the natural progression of the disease, but it seems weird how it’s since the jabs. I also developed tendinitis in my left shoulder, which is the arm I had the jab in 🤷♀️
I had a flare after the first jab, spoke to rheumatologist and had steroid injection which settled things, only for exactly the same to happen after 2nd jab. That time I was given steroid tablets which did not work add well and took loads of painkillers too before it eventually settled. Not too excited about 3rd or booster or whatever
I had a flare up of my AS after the first AZ dose, which lasted a week. I’ve just had my third primary dose which was Pfizer last Tuesday, and have had flu like symptoms as well as my pelvis and ribs feeling they’ve been crushed by a steamroller. It’s now 7 days and still no sign of it settling. I would call your rheumatology team for advice
