My rheumatologist told me not to omit either my biologic or dmard for the vaccine. There was a webinar with a rheumatologist heavily involved in the Octave study who said the same. They both stated if you omit and go into a flare your body is going to be too busy fighting inflammation, that it would struggle to also make new antibodies. He also said MTX and many biologics have a long half life, so it wouldn’t make much difference

So many confusing message about vaccines and DMARDS and biologics. I took mine all way through as info was not clear at the start of this vaccination program. Left me a bit worried about how well I am protected . So I just continue to be sensible anyway! With third vaccine I did leave out the week before

If you are on Rtx there was advice by the BSR to make a much longer gap between infusion and vaccines. Rtx can blunt them .. including pneumonia and flu vaccines. Has blunted all of my vaccines. My rheumy said 6 months, but still wasn’t long enough for me. Rtx is rather different to the other biologics though although the JAK’s are said to also interfere too. Yes there is the consideration of you being in flare if you don’t have your medication so it can be a bit of a dilemma for many.
