Got shingles 8 weeks into Rinvoq?

Got diarrhea right away with Rinvoq & then shingles, 8 weeks in. Rheumy & RPh can’t decide if I should go back on Rinvoq after shingles clear or change to biologic drug. What to do?

Can’t help but extending shingles sympathy. Still got a couple of patches on my face. My culprit was Baricitinib. 🙄

I'm lifelong antivirals after my bout of it some 4 years ago. And I was hospitalised it was dreadful so you have my sympathy. It could be the way to go if the medication for RA is working and you want to carry on with it. x

I haven’t had shingles but my husband has and you have all my sympathies. I’ve been on a biologic for over 10 years but it stopped working earlier this year. I was due to be changed to RINVOQ but routine blood tests in August showed liver issues. My blood tests are back to normal and 2 different liver scans are ok. Unfortunately the results haven’t yet got to my rheumatologist so I can’t change meds. Yesterday a plea to her secretary has led to me getting an appointment next week as long as the relevant reports have arrived.

Oh no that is such a shame. Was the a Rinvoq working on your joints? I have been on it for 6 weeks and it is like a miracle drug for me. Literally before this I could not walk. My consultant who put me on it also prescribed me 5 mg prednisone so that in effect stops the problems with your bowel, as steroids alway bung me up. I was also showing increased liver count before this which was caused by the previous drug I was on. Even my family say I’m looking better.I hope you get sorted soon x

No in fact I lost a bit of weight, but I don’t think I’ve been eating as much. Still on Rinvoq and it is the best drug by far, but I do get sinusitis, neuralgia and urine infections a lot with it, but it’s all side effects that I can live with xx

Not Rinvoq but Tocilizumab, it was working well but following 2nd vivid jab got mouth ulcers, cold sores and then shingles. I spoke to Rheumy and he asked if I wanted to change but as I'd had a course of anti virals I decided to try injecting every 2 weeks. Am now down to every 10 days and everything is going well. So if the Rinvoq was working ut might be worth exploring options to stay on it. Good luck.

I went back on Rinvoq after the shingles healed- it helps so much with relieving my RA pain- I take it with milk & food, so no more bowel distress. Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies.
