Surgery cancelled
I am so sorry to hear this and send some supportive wishes right out to you Kershon, take care x
Sorry to hear this xx
That seems excessively cautious to me! Sorry to hear you have to wait.
I completely agree OT. My hb is rarely that high - usually around 100 at best, but I've never had an op postponed because of it.
Sorry this has happened to you. Unbelievably disappointing and frustrating. Hope it's soon re-scheduled.
I am so sorry to hear that your surgery has been cancelled. I canāt begin to imagine how upsetting this is for you. Take good care and hope a new way forward can be found really soon for you x
I'm sorry to hear this.My HB was 117 before surgery last week, no one mentioned anything to me about being anaemic or me requiring treatment.
Are you being treated to bring your values up ?
No they just said eat lots of iron rich food. What's more frustrating is they didn't check it the results for 2 weeks as short staffed in the office so could possibly have been raised before the surgery. I seem to go from 1 misfortune to another just lately. I have a test booked for Tuesday so praying it is higher. There's is only so much Prune and beetroot juice you can drink and I am now sick of Broccoli lol x
I take Floradix iron tablets. I canāt tolerate prescribed iron but these are great. Good luck.
are these over the counter? I tried finding some iron tabs but could only get multivitamins with iron.
My Hb always hovers around 100 and I had orthopaedic surgery 18 months ago and have just been passed as medically fit for more surgery on my other foot.
Is your Hb always that low? If so, if I was you Iād speak to your rheumatology department and ask them to speak to the orthopaedic department to find out what the problem is and hopefully argue your case.
After checking my bloods I was thinking that also. It has been higher this year for some reason but the whole of last year it was lower than that. They said it was hospital policy but if I swap hospitals it will also delay it so a bit stuck for now. I thought it was pretty standard to have a lower hb with RA anyway.
It is very common to have low Hb with RA. Itās known as anaemia of chronic disease.
My Hb is always low but maybe they are thinking about you needing a transfusion post op. I had 4 pints after each THR.
That is so disappointing, not surprised you are fed up. Especially annoying as your Hb was tested a fortnight before your op. I can never understand why pre-op bloods tend to be done so far in advance, it seems really odd to me.
