Hi Everyone,

Has anyone ever tried Emla Cream before injecting biologics? I am on Benepali and find the injections so painful, the nurses have recommended giving this cream a go and seeing if it does anything.

Has anyone got any experience with it?

Thank you

My daughter uses it on my grandson when he has to have blood tests. I've tried it but personally for the cost of it and the faffing of having to put it on, cover it up, wait for an hour it's just not worth it. Take your benepali out of the fridge the day before, warm it under your arm to bring it to body temp just before you use it. Inject in your stomach it's less painful than your thigh. I'm not saying it won't sting . I still hold my breath when I inject. Try not to hesitate, just push and grit your teeth, it'll soon be over and it's only a few seconds.

Are you talking needle or pen? I had the pen it did sting but the needle is just so easy and painless. Never feel it go in and its vital to take out of fridge for a couple of hours before using.

We use Emla with my teen for bloods (and occasionally for cannulas when her central line has packed up) and have done for years: it’s hit and miss as to how well it works, and even when it works decently, it does only really numb the surface, so you can still get pain. I sometimes wonder if the effect is more psychological than truly physical. That said, if it does help, the why doesn’t really matter so much - we wouldn’t get near her with a needle without it.
