Urghhhhhh steroid reduction

Just having a little moan, sorry! Was put on prednisolone 2.5 weeks ago and after 24 hours of taking 10mg I felt great and continued to feel great - less stiffness, less pain, more mobility, being able to do stuff I’ve not been able to for months which did wonders for the mental health! But on Thursday I reduced it to 5mg (as per instructions) and I feel horrific today... all the stiffness and pain has come back, I’m nauseous and exhausted - nearly passed out trying to hoover... decided to call it a day and go to bed rather than force myself to do more! Hope you guys are having a better weekend and are enjoying the sun!x

Halving the dose like that is quite a drop. Are you on other drugs now that are supposed to be working by now ?

I’m not on any other drugs besides painkillers but I do have an appointment with my consultant next week... I’ve contacted 111 though to see if I can go back up to 10mg until then and I feel rough as hell!

It's so rubbish when you finally start to feel better you take a few steps back.

Vacuuming is my nemesis, try to avoid like the plague although the dust is like tumble weed in my house 😁

Really hope you get on some long term medication to help control your arthritis and be able to ditch the steroids , and that you feel better soon.

Oh Cloki, it is so dispiriting isn't it? It is almost as if you have been given the best gift of all time and it has been snatched away. Must admit, I pay someone to do my hoovering once a week as I just cannot do it without excruciating pain. If it gets dirty in between, so be it. Hope you are going to have a drug to help after the steroids. x

Dropping by 5mg is too quick, go back up to 10 if you have enough and then speak to your consultant.

I’ve just been seen by an out of hours doc and they’ve prescribed enough for me to go back up to 10mg until I see my consultant on Wednesday!

You said you had the 2.5mg tablets? Could you go back to 7.5mg (3 tablets) providing a half way house between the 10mg (which worked) and the 5mg (which isn't enough)? At least it shows that you are steroid responsive - useful for the medical team to know.

I’ve seen an out of hours doc and they’ve prescribed some more so that I can go back up to ten until I see my consultant - I’ve only got the 5mg tablets atm! Genuinely feel like I’ve been hit by a bus but hopefully the increased dose will kick in fairly soon again x

I am so sorry you are feeling so rough. I am pleased that you have been seen by an out of hours doctor and you can go back up to 10mg until you see your consultant on Wednesday. Really hope the increase in steroids gives you so much needed relief and will be thinking of you on Wednesday. Do let us know how you are when you can and feel up to it won’t you? x
