My Interesting Covid Experience

A little over a week ago I felt extreme chills and cold. It was really hard but lasted only for about a day (even less) and then I was just a little sick, like a regular flu. I never developed cough or lung symptoms. I did the Covid test and it turned out positive.

What is interesting is that all my joint symptoms subsided. The swelling was gone, my arm was almost perfectly straight at the elbow, I could walk and, ironically, had more energy than in a long long time. It's like my immune system was too busy with Covid, so it left my joints alone for a while. Unfortunately, it lasted only a week. Now struggling again, all symptoms are back. I wish there was a way to keep my immune system busy with something so that I could live my life.

Yea this happened to me when I had norovirus. Usain bolt had nothing on me running for the toilet 😁symptom and pain free . Haven’t be like it since . Our bodies are too busy fighting a real infection rather than our own. Need medication that mimics an infection without making us ill ..

Thankyou for sharing your experience of Covid and RD with us. Not in the same league as Covid, but I feel 'better' RD wise when I have a cold, or other minor infection.

Have often wondered if this is an area if research as whenever you get an illness, the RD subsides. There must be something to learn there, now that I know it is not only me,

I have seen posts like this before, but not too many, so I assume it's not the same for everyone. It would be interesting to know why some of us get relief when they get sick with something else, and others don't. I hardly ever get sick at all, so it's really my first experience like this.

I don’t get sick either all my problems are RA related 🤷‍♀️

Your experience is indeed very interesting ubound. I'm really pleased to hear that the virus had so little impact on you (with the exception of improving your RA symptoms!), but I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling again. RA can be such a mysterious disease at times.

Firstly I am so sorry you tested positive for covid but as others have mentioned it is strange how when some people are ill with something RD seems to for a short while leave our joints or bodies in general alone. I have this when I've been ill with something else. It's like the body responds to what it should be doing at that moment and leaves the rest of us alone, until it has fought whatever it is off, but then for whatever reason can't switch off that fighting and carries on. We are complex creatures aren't we! Take care x

I’ve often noticed that when I’ve had a cold my rheumatoid symptoms often lessen.

Most colds are just so much easier than RA, I would rather have them often than limp and struggle to get to the bathroom.

I agree although unfortunately it doesn’t disappear just eases slightly!

I usually don't get colds at all. But in case of Covid, it wasn't a slight improvement. It was a huge improvement. I haven't seen my joints like this in many years now.

That really is interesting , the more I read about RA the more complex it seems.Hope your RA improves soon xx

Early on in my RA journey at a time when I was really struggling physically still with uncontrolled disease, and also in the throes of my relationship breaking down (partner unable to cope with the prospect of my ongoing illness), I accidentally got really really drunk at a friend's 50th party - I guess I needed to let off steam. With hindsight it was probably close to alcohol poisoning, and I hasten to add I DON'T recommend anyone else try this, but for about three days afterwards all my RA symptoms disappeared. And I mean totally disappeared, I was completely pain free and could walk without a stick. Never happened since but I've often wondered about it, so it's interesting to hear others describing similar experiences during illness that wasnt self-inflicted 😉

Yes, I also read in another group about someone who had a shoulder surgery done and she says all symptoms subsided for 2 months while she was recovering. And another person who had Covid vaccine and all symptoms were gone for a month!
