I’m starting my biologic tomorrow and admit to feeling excited and nervous all at the same time. Overall though I am feel very positive to have been given the opportunity to have biologics to get me back on my feet again. I have the nurse coming to see me tomorrow and will be injecting myself with Adalimumab. I am in lots of pain so am seeing tomorrow as a new chapter. Which biologic are you starting on? Fingers crossed they work well for us both. x

Hi Summerrain14,I am starting with my injection on Wednesday and I am taking the same as you (Adalimumab) the nurse will show me how. Like you the pain in my arms and fingers are so painful . I hope yours is successful and that we are pain free, I would say I will keep my fingers crossed but no can do at the moment 🤞lol, thankyou for your text it is always nice when someone can relate to you and good luck X

Gave me my life back. Went from hardly being able to walk and unable to lift a mug to doing all the things I used to do. I now garden, ski, kayak, go sailing with no problems. Hope you have a similar experience.

If you’re worried about the actual injection itself, it’s really not that bad. Over in a flash! You will adapt to it quickly and hopefully see some good results! x

Hi loners,It isn't the injections it's the Biologics you can read seafood things and also Negative things so you tend to go for worse case and all that but I new that coming onto this site and asking for help would one way or another put my mind at rest and it has, what amazing support there is for us all and I for one am truly grateful, thankyou to you and everyone who has put my mind at rest. 🥰 X

Haha. Not at all!! Would take much more than that to offend me! It actually made me laugh. My screen name is an anagram of my first name by the way :)

I started Benepali last year in addition to Methotrexate which I have been taking for nearly 8 years.

Benepali stings a bit when I inject, but I’ve had no side effects at all and am feeling positively human again!

I just wish I could have added it to my cocktail of RA drugs sooner 😀

It stings less if you take it out of the fridge 30 mins before you inject it I found (and was told by healthcare. )

Thanks. I do that too, I also stick it under my arm to warm it to body temperature for half an hour and rub the injection site for a few seconds beforehand.

The benefits far outweigh the sting!!

I'm on Cimzia and it's given me my life back too. I was very apprehensive about doing the injections at first.I had a nurse come to show me the first two times and then she told me to phone her if I wanted her to come again but I didn't need to. I've been on them for nearly 7 yrs and injecting is second nature to me now. Wishing you all the best xx🐰

Hi Madbunny,Have you been able to stop steroids at all?

MadBunny profile image

I wasn't on them thankfully by then. Only at the onset of RA until I could get to see the specialist

Definately worth a try. So many different ones out there. Remember to take it out of fridge an hour before so it stings less. I am sure you will manage to find a place that doesn't hurt you and after a year on biologics, on my second biologic now, I still prefer my thigh but everyone's pain threshold is different and I am a total baby when it comes to pain. I hope it all works out for you and eases the pain. X

Agree with this - my 1st injection (so eager to get started) I found very uncomfortable and got urticaria (hives) on my leg and thought I might be allergic - then I was told to let it warm up before injecting - had no further problem

They were a miracle for me I went from lots of pain and useless hands, elbows and shoulders to virtually nothing within a few days. A year later and I’m still pain free. It stings a little but for about 10 seconds and that’s it. Was the best thing ever for me. Good luck xx

Longlocks profile image
Longlocks in reply to Cannes4me

NoI take nothing else. I was on Hydroxychloraquine but have recently weaned myself off them (after discussion with Rheumatologist of course)

I have been trying to get my pred down from 6mg for a while now but I carn't, everytime I go down even alternating one day 6mg and then 5mg i have a flare, so i was hoping that being on biologics could help with that... i think i will just have to see what happens. Thankyou for your reply X

Abatacept for me, it's been amazing, for periods my symptoms have been in complete remission , not quite so good right now but still loads better than before.Like others I let it warm for an hour in the kitchen, and inject in my thighs where I bruise less than in the tummy.

Hope it works well for you. X
