I get discomfort there even if I've just been stretching up a little when pegging out washing or getting it back in, things that you wouldn't normally justify that kind of discomfort to and other silly things like that, I also get intense itching on the same area which sometimes drives me nuts.

Yes I have had pain there. It could be muscular or something else. Have you tried either applying heat to it, like a hot water bottle, or gentle massage? Is your pain accompanied by any breathlessness or a cough? If either of the latter I would contact your GP.

Is there a positional element to the amount of pain... i.e., sitting erect, driving, etc? Any numbness down the arm to the hand on the affected side?

Hiya Denise. I've had pain in a similar place ages ago. Considering you're having an op next week it may be prudent to have your GP check you over, just so you know all's well for then.

I'd also suggest you call your rheumatology department - they may be able to do a virtual consultation with you ideally with screen time so they can see your range of movement. never feel that you are a 'bother' for the docs...Yes they are busy but your health is paramount and if you think something's not right don't hesitate to get in touch with the experts if it doesn't settle after a reasonable time.

Ask your doctor about it. As you say it could be a muscle or something else entirely. My dr moans that I don’t speak up earlier. They really do not mind and it will give you an answer and some relief 🙋🏻‍♀️

I am experiencing similar mid-back pain, more on the right side which has come and gone for awhile now. I cannot decide if it’s RA related. I’ve tried a few exercises for this, one particular that I remember from reformer Pilates, where you use a Thera-band (I use a grey one in strength), hook the band around a pole (stair post eg) and pull the band in a row with elbow level and tight at your sides - then pull the elbow past your sides and return to sides is the movement and repeat. This strengthens the counter/support muscle to the area of back pain. Have you been using a touch screen phone/iPad a lot - I think there is maybe a connection, or I have RA inflammation in my back.Diana
