Tremors

Hi all. Please can I ask for your help. I really don't know what to do. Near enough every time I stand up from sitting down. My body goes into a tremor. My body shakes uncontrollably until I sit back down. I have seen a neurologist and he says my spine is ok. I don't know what to do. It is scaring me so much 😫

My husband had loads of issues and for a year was on huge amount of drugs due to tremors in his arms and legs. Neuro could find nothing. It was hard going but then they worked it back to his shoulder arthritis kicking in and with a mix of getting off his drugs that also caused tremors and some physio he started to get stronger. Then they found in the same shoulder skin cancer after a year of prodding him and not seeing it.

So I know we had to keep going to the GP and keep going for xrays and mris etc but then it just went away after 2 hospital stays as well.

So make sure your GP knows how you are feeling. With Ra I have days my body has tremors but they are light and tend to be in my arms.

So I cant help in many ways but show some support as its horrible when the body does things you don't understand.

I would chat with rheumatology in case it's a side effect of one of your drugs? My sister 2as investigated and it was a rare side effect of a drug she takes , they changed it and she improved . Pardon the underlining dont know why its happening. Obviously pressed something !

Ah thars better , soz xx

And has your blood pressure been checked recently?

Yes. I normally have high blood pressure so i am on medication for it

Not remotely medically qualified, but this sounds a bit like a possible manifestation of orthostatic hypotension - a sudden drop in blood pressure on standing, sometimes called postural hypotension. Most people will have experienced OH at least once in their life as a head rush on getting up from lying or sitting, but it can range from a basic head rush to actual fainting, with some interesting bits very few people know about in between. I used to get it as a result of a medication I was taking for an arrhythmia, and would shake on standing to the point it would genuinely look like I was having a massive seizure. Sometimes it would kick in immediately, sometimes I would make it a few steps before it began - scared a postman more than once when getting up to answer the door. My baby sister lived with me at the time and would often come in to the kitchen to find me holding on to the fridge or a counter top, shaking, or hanging on to the wall at the bottom of the stairs 🙈 If it is OH, it often intensifies over the first 30 seconds before peaking and gradually dissipating, usually lasting less than a minute total. Very unpleasant experience even when you’re used to it happening, but can be countered somewhat by getting up *extremely* slowly, making sure you stay hydrated, and potentially adding a little extra salt (depending on any other health issues you may have like heart or kidney problems, in which case seek medical advice first). Crossing your legs when sitting can also make it worse. If it’s medication driven - and in many cases it is - reducing the dose of the culprit or changing to an alternative usually resolves it, but some people are just prone, regardless of what their normal bp is or what medication they take. I know people that have it with normal bp and no meds.
