I have been experiencing inflammation in two of my finger joints for over a week now ..one has got a lot bigger but both now have a purpley blue tinge to them. Has anyone had a similar experience and has idea why it happens? I am new to this and trying to gain a better understanding (I have mctd btw ...rheumatoid arthritis with lupus overlap)

That doesn’t sound very good and I’ll be honest a blue tinge and I would certainly be seeking some help and advice with sending photos at the same time. My problem is in my knees rather than my fingers so I am not a lot of use. 🍀
Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. Sorry to hear about your knees. The rheumatology nurse thinks its pressing on a nerve. There's much to understand - I still feel like I am wasting their time when I ring up with symptoms which I am not sure are anything to be concerned about
Hi Bettina, I am sorry you are having issues with your fingers. Blue tinge does not sound good, I have had finger swellings before and they get tingly & Numb and hurt when moved / bent. My dr said it could be because the inflammation in the joint is pressing on the blood vessels & nerves. I am guessing your blue tinge could be result of the same. Definitely call your Dr and seek help soon. Are you taking any medication for RA or any anti inflammatory for pain? Take care, hope you get some relief soon!
Thanks so much for replying and apologies for not responding sooner. I did hear back from the rheumatology team and they explained the colour was due to pressure on the nerves just as you said. I'm currently on methotrexate and trying again on hydroxycholorine after experiencing some side effects last time I attempted. Now booked in for steroid shots for my joints so hopefully will be sorted soon. Thanks once again.
