Merry Christmas - hope so after eve in A&E!

Sudden onset of flashes of light and several floaters in left eye. I thought about ignoring it, but after looking it up (as you do), decided to call 111 for advice (this service is so, so good). After speaking with a number of people I was asked to present at A&E and they would be expecting me but not to drive. My son lives just 5 miles away fortunately. A couple of hours and two doctors later, I was given eye cream, an appointment to see Optometrist on Monday and warnings that if anything changes at all, to go straight back to hospital.

The year that keeps giving.... But all is well, I have little friends flitting about in my field of vision but I guess I will get used to that, and the little flashes of light too.

Beam me up Scottie - I appear to have landed in some surreal world! Ha ha ha Ho Ho Ho

Not the way you would choose to spend Xmas eve but it's good that you got it checked and have got a follow up appointment for Monday. I had my eyes checked recently and mentioned that I occasionally get flashes of light and she said that it was a natural part of the ageing process (I've heard that so often since turning 60!) but to check with her if I also got floaters with it so you were right to see a doctor.

Hope that you can relax and enjoy your Xmas and weekend. We're lucky in that this Xmas won't be any different for us as we don't really celebrate it anyway. I am cooking a nice lunch though - roast duck - and I'm sure that there'll be some yummy chocolates later 😋😊

Sorry to hear that Brushwork, that must have been really scary. Let's hope the floaters just float away into oblivion as they can be a real nuisance. I have a resident one in my right eye and regularly swipe at what I think is a fly but of course it's not. I hope you manage to have a merry and peaceful trouble-free Christmas regardless. xx

Oh no

Hope your Christmas gets better and your eye problem resolves quickly x

Sorry to hear of your problem and a visit to A&E for Christmas. You do get used to floaters ... I've had some for years and manage just fine. Flashing lights only when I've had too much to drink though!! Merry Christmas!

Glad you were well looked after - now you know what to look out for and what to do if things get worse. Look after yourself and happy Christmas. You’re right, this is the year that just keeps on giving - even when you’d rather not have what it’s giving.

Poo!! Not a great start to Christmas but definitely did the right thing.

Just curious why eye cream? Please keep an eye on things ( no pun intended) I have a family history of this so I’m naturally cautious.

Enjoy your day xx

Hope your eye is a little better now Brushwork. I've been thinking back to when I was diagnosed with PVD (Posterior Vitreous Detachment), if you don't know what that is it's when the gel comes away from the back of the eye. Mine was diagnosed about five years ago and a couple of years later, one of my sisters was diagnosed with the same thing. It isn't a serious problem and quite common as you get older but can be similar to other things and also can be quite scary if you don't know what it is. Hope all goes well on Monday. xx

Hi, I had a similar problem in my right eye earlier on in the year, I saw a specialist at the hospital who could not see anything wrong. I was supposed to have a follow up appointment but that was canceled due to COVID. I still can see the light when the room is getting darker and I look to the left, otherwise I don’t see it, I also have a persistent floater in the right eye. I was told by one of the nurses at the eye clinic it was quite common in more mature people. 😕. I have now stopped worrying about it.
