Drinking ginger

I love drinking my fresh ginger either chopped or grated with cut up lemon and oranges. I add turmeric, ground pepper and a teaspoon of honey in a huge mug first thing in the morning. I absolutely love it

That was what I did at the early stage of my RA. Pepper is oil soluble, for it to work in our body, you can add a little oil into the mixture before you drink it.

I read somewhere that you should always use turmeric and pepper together. It activates the healing agent in the turmeric

Yes, I read that too hence at the early stage I drank the same mixture but I added Olive oil into the mixture too.

Try adding more honey and less turmeric as the turmeric can be very overpowering. You just need about half a teaspoon

I suffer with nausea due to another illness, and buy a ginger and honey tea from an Asian store with lots of ginger through it. It is delicious but has the added advantage of settling the nausea

I also have had that tea, in South Africa it’s rather expensive so making it from the fresh ingredients is far more cost effective and I love munching on the left over ingredients after finishing the tea

Unfortunately I’m not allowed turmeric as I’m on anti platelet meds after having a stroke. Anyone who is on any blood thinning meds needs to avoid turmeric. I did get some pure turmeric, which was prescription strength in Australia. It was excellent at reducing inflammation, butt started getting loads of bruises. I had asked the sales guy and he had said it was only warfarin that was contraindicated, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. So had to stop. Sad as it cost a fortune and sits in my bottom drawer now.

Ginger interacts with blood thinning medication, please check to ensure you are ok with it.

Definitely try it and after reading all the do’s and don’t of teas and coffees I’m definitely going to be drinking more of this. You can actually reuse the ingredients and just top up with boiling water and add more honey

You have to be careful with turmeric if you have gallstones and other liver problems I understand.

I know.... I’m dying to get off my biologics and go the natural way

Suggest you check with your rheumy first. So far my own experience is nothing helped until Mtx kicked in.

My rheumatologist refuses to take me off biologics especially with COVID . She’s under the impression that Actemra is protecting me

Amy_Lee profile image
Amy_Lee in reply to Help-

She is the expert hence she should know enough to make a good decision to protect you, right?

In my case, I will listen to my rheumy and will work closely with her.

May I know why do you dying to get off your biologics? Are they not helpful to control your RA or do they give you problem?

I have a infusion so every 24 days for the last 7 years I have been going to sit at the hospital with patients with cancer and it’s very soul destroying. I also have no veins left and they sit poking and prodding about three times until they finally find a vein. I also had a shocking experience about three months ago when my rheumatologist gave me medicine which caused me to have a major epileptic fit where I landed up breaking my leg and now have epilepsy. So I have major trust issues with her. I’m so tired of taking medicine and being ill. I just want some form of normality. It’s just so unpleasant when I have my treatment and I’m ill for about two weeks afterwards. As soon as I start feeling normal it’s time for my treatment. I have been on four different biologics as I had side effects to most of them. I’m just tired

Very sorry to know about your condition. Have you informed your rheumy on your problem and worry? Give her a chance to explain herself. Then decide if to change a rheumy. To stop the biologics on your own may give you more harm than good. I am not very sure.

I can certainly feel your frustration. Every few months when I go for the blood test, sometimes they just couldn’t find the vein to draw the blood hence tried a few rounds, I already felt very uneasy. In your case, it will be worse!! Tell your rheumy honestly and then decide.
