Flu nasal spray query

Hi everyone

Both my children have egg allergy and have always had the nasal flu spray vaccine.

I’ve just booked theirs for this year but at the back of my mind I seem to remember reading something about not being too close to them when they get it. Did I dream that??

And just while I’m overthinking...is there any reason why my son shouldn’t go and play football that afternoon after having the vaccine in the morning?

Apparently the surgery don’t have my jab in stock yet!

Thanks in advance

I would check all this with the surgery before you go. They’re the best ones to answer it. 😊

Thanks Kitty. I agree but I often find that it’s the clever people on here that seem to have their fingers on the pulse! I will give them a call.

There is anti-vax propaganda on the net which promotes doom and gloom...but this might reassure you

Don’t kiss their noses perhaps.., and always ask your own doctors.

Thanks HH! This is really useful. You’re right about checking with the doctors of course, but this is very helpful.

No you didn’t imagine that .....the influenza spray vaccine given to children is an attenuated vaccine ....which contains some live vaccine which has been weakened. You should Probably take advice as to how close you should get....I expect it depends on the meds you are taking.

Thanks AC. I’m pretty sure I have ignored this completely due to not knowing anything about it for the last five years or so! Appreciate you confirming I didn’t just make it up!

Here is the NRAS statement on the nasal spray vaccine. The relevant bit to you is the second half. nras.org.uk/statement-about...

General advice is if possible get your vaccination 2 weeks before theirs.

Thanks so much for posting this. This would be easier if my surgery had my vaccine yet!

I know. I booked mine at our local pharmacy this year to try to get two weeks between me and the children as it looked like my surgery would take a little while to get round to me!
