Could be better.

I want to lose weight .Have checked out the NHS site that’s being plugged at the moment.

It doesn’t seem possible to add your calories together eg breakfast x calories + Lunch x calories +dinner x calories Total for day=x.

Am I missing something? All the apps that do this have a cost so as this is a national health policy re losing weight why is it not easier to use? Have messaged them no reply!

Thank you everyone who have replied to me.👏😘

We are going to try My Plate.

I’ve used my fitness pal to count calories etc. It’s free and worked for me 😊

It’s very easy, you can scan barcodes so you don’t even have to search for foods.

I take a note on paper for each meal then add up at the end of the day

I use paper and pencil too. Much easier than an app, transportable and does not rely on an internet connection 😉

Like Kitty suggested above i use my fitness pal, its a free app and its really good for keeping track of calories and your target calorific intake.

I lost alot of weight by healthy eating and walking, I did it gradually over about a year and a half and lost about 3 stone.

Saying this I've put about 2 of them back on so I'm firing up the app again.

I found its not about perfection but persistence so if you have a bad day just move on. This is so easy to type out but you can don't x

Thanks I will have a look at that.

I lost 10 stone using the free version of an app called MyPlate. I’ve been maintaining for the last couple of years and continue to use it to track my daily intake as it keeps me honest.

Thank you will look at that as well.

If you have a phone that has a step counter, it’ll also pull that info in to tell you how many calories you’ve burnt. I much prefer it to myfitnesspal in a lot of ways. Good luck, though, whatever you decide to use, and remember that a bad day is just that: one bad day.

Did you see the recent 3 part programme with Dr. Michael Moselely and his wife, a GP? They put people on a 3 week 800 calorie low carb, high protein diet and it worked.

We're trying it out at home and it's worked so far all 3 of us have lost 3-4 lbs in 12 days. We're not calorie counting but eating lots of protein mainly salmon, mackerel, chicken, mozarella cheese and loads (I mean loads) of veg and salad.

The easiest thing is to cut out all processed food if you can. If you buy anything in a packet/tin and it has more than 3 ingredients listed then watch it but if it has more than 5 it's a no go; too many additives. Fresh and cook from scratch wherever possible. Took me a little while to get used to it as I don't like cooking but am used to it now. Remember that frozen veg is as good as fresh. I agree with BoneyC that Dr Michael Moseley programme is very good and he has others as well. Worth watching. You will soon get to know how big a portion is and you won't need to keep checking your calories in (and out). Good luck.

I've lost 4 and a half stone in a little over 18 months. I'm now almost back to my pre RA diagnostic weight.

I eat only freshly prepared food, use all food groups and do not avoid anything other than sugar ( it causes mouth and gut problems).

I do pay attention to my daily calorie count, but am not focussed in on it, preferring to eat healthy, but I aim for 1200 - 1300 calories per day.

Good luck.

I eat fresh home cooked food no processed food and watch portions and I’m battling against the tide trying to loose weight 😤😤 thyroid ok 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️calorie count a good day 1100 Calories bad day 1400 can do no more. Told medication doesn’t cause weight gain so don’t know why but will keep trying

It simply isn’t true that medication doesn’t cause weight gain. It’s also written right there in the side effects and clearly some meds mess with our hormones more than others. It’s written in the side effects because that is what has happened to thousands and thousands of people.

My upped pred dose and MXT dose... is starting to impact. It’s a nightmare. 😔 went 20 years as the same weight ... without meds I don’t gain weight with them I do. Off the meds I stabilise and stay the same weight again. Off the meds choc tastes yuk ... on them ... mmmmm yummy 😋

Grrrr 😡 at whoever told you that nonsense.
