Methotrexate injections.

So I've just swapped from tablets to injections and I forgot to ask the nurse if it would work straight away or there is the 8 - 12 week wait time.

Also i used to have really bad issues with my digestive system but since taking methotrexate and sulfasalazine, I've had no issues at all. It's been bliss this last 2 years, if only they did something for my RA it would be wonderful.

The injections have the same stuff in them as the tablets, it just gets into your circulation more efficiently.

Have you been given the same dose as with the tablets? - if so then it should be more effective.

But you won't notice an immediate improvement as with any methotrexate it takes time for it to work - but you should notice any improvement more quickly than if you were starting from scratch as some methotrexate is already in your system from the tablets.

I can't say that it made any difference to me swopping - it was only mildly effective and didn't reduce the side effects enough for me to be able to continue.

Thanks for that, the only side effect I have is my hair falling out but I guess nearly everyone gets that. I am on the same dose, I suppose I should just give it a bit of time but I'm not hopeful.

I think but I hope this is right basically you are just swapping the delivery method , there I believe when I swapped there was no dose difference. So it generally takes around 3 months to get into your system so for me it should continue from where you were ..

Personally I feel the injections work quicker and more efficiently. By the time the tablets have been broken down by your digestive system you will inevitably loose some of the strength. Injections bypass the digestive system so you get the full effect of your dose and less likely to get digestive issues.

I swapped from tablets to injections in spring of 2017; as injections are more effective, the dose was lowered to 20mg. There was no waiting for it be effective, as if starting from scratch.
