Hi everyone it’s bee a long time since I was last on line,I have a condition I have never heard of,I’ve had rheumatoid arthritis for nearly 20 years,I’ve never been a poorly person but since October last year I’ve had, diverticulitis, pancreatitis, then pneumonia,I got finished at work for time off,I have never been as ill as that before.my consultant had me have another x ray to see if it was better, upon having this scan,he sent for me to come to the hospital,he told me that my first X-ray had something showing on my lungs that wasn’t picked up,so he asked another colleague to take a look and that’s why I had to have another scan, what I have is something called rheumatoid lung, well I’ve never heard of it nor as some other rheumatoid friends of mine.the consultant told me that,40 per cent of rheumatoid patients get it and that their is no cure for it...x
Rheumatoid arthritis : Hi everyone it’s bee a long time... - NRAS
Rheumatoid arthritis
Sorry to hear you are having such a horrible time. I would want to know exactly what type of 'Rheumatoid Arthritis lung disease' it was. And there are some treatments for some of them.
You might find helpful the page on the NRAS site: nras.org.uk/the-effects-of-...
Sorry you are have a bad time. Like Old Timer I think you need to be given a better explanation. Yes having RA does open you up to lung diseases, but I think these days they know much more about the range of things that can affect your lungs. It was probably called Rheumatoid Lung way back when, like Miner’s Lung which is now correctly called pneumoconiosis.
And with a lot of things there may be no cure, but it doesn’t mean there’s no treatment. Keep asking questions.
I'm so sorry!
But please ask for more details and more information so you can really know what you're dealing with and move forward from there.
I know it's so disheartening. But the more you know about what it is... You can learn what's in your control to perhaps help yourself.
Hi Julie, I have small nodules in my lungs that are very likely the result of having RA and the resulting treatment, but it's not something that is affecting me in an adverse way and the doctors keep an eye on it every few years. Insist on a satisfactory explanation. I always do for everything. Most doctors are very willing to explain.
Hi Julie, I would still ask questions, maybe speak to someone from NRAS you have a right to some answers. Maybe speak to your Rhuematolgy Nurse as well as sometimes I find they are more approachable than the consultants. Good luck.
Sounds unpleasant, Julie49 but good you seem to be getting some kind of diagnosis. Like others, I’d want a bit more accurate information along with what positive steps can be taken to endure, cope and improve if possible too. Best of luck.
Hi Julie, has your consultant said anything about referring you on to respiratory medicine for this? If not, it might be worth asking them or your GP to so they can establish what lung involvement is present and perform pulmonary function tests (not invasive or scary) to check what effect it's having. There might not be a cure but there is often treatment to keep your lungs functioning as well as possible and they'll keep you under review to ensure they pick up any further changes.
Thanks for the advice,I will certainly be discussing these issues on my next visit....x
