Humira and weight gain?

Hi all

I have now been on Humira since November 18 and am struggling to lose weight . I have been attending slimming world but despite rigidly sticking to their plan have not lost weight over the past four weeks. Humira is helping with my pain but I am very down now about the weight!

I have read some reports that state that Humira can do this.

anyone else in this situation?

I've been on Humira for 10 years, plus low dose steroids and for me no problem. I recently started Gabapentin and gaining weight, not happy as it also states you can lose weight. Never know why it effects people differently. X

Hi,

I also was on Humira and certainly gained weight mostly around the tummy area. Humira was stopped because of side effects . Weight came down but I think most biological med have this effect. I am on Cosentyx at the moment, weight gain not so bad and also going to slimming world !

Keep up with the diet. I know it's very frustrating but you are not alone. X

I'm about to start on it and weight gain is a concern. May I ask why you started humira? RA?

I was put on Humira after Tocilizumab didn't suit me in lots of ways. Didn't have any side effects with Humira but sadly it didn't control my RA either. I have recently been switched to Abatacept but it's too early to decide if it will work yet. So far so good. My first biologic was Etanercept which was fantastic for 5 years till it stopped working.

I haven’t really noticed any difference with my weight, I’ve been non humira about 5 years now I reckon. I need to lose about a stone as my weight has crept up over the last 6 months or so, but that’s because I’m snacking too much..!!! 😖😝

Getting ready to start Humira for the first time next Monday.

I am also reading (probably way too much) about Humira and side effects. Weight gain seems to be a very common problem with the Biologics overall.

I gained over 20+lbs on 2.5 years of prednisone. Lost it all once I started taking Arava... but my hair was coming out horribly so my rheumatologist has now got me set to give Humira a go.

I hate this rotten disease and I hate that the medications have these awful side effects. Best of luck to you. ❤️
