Sorry Lyns58 - do you mean a letter telling us to shield or another letter telling us to stop shielding? 🤔

Lyns58 in reply to Boxerlady

Sorry. I meant another letter that government said they would send to continue shielding until end of july. He said he was sending letters out to everyone who is shielding

Hi Lyns58,

I have received a letter advising me to continue shielding until 31st July. After that date, I can return to work (but won't) and as long as I Social Distance, I can mix with others outside, however they advise that the safest thing to do is to remain at home where possible.

So, basically, there is no real advice other than to carry on as before, but we can't provide the assistance we were providing.

Be careful by saying you won’t return. Your company could make that a permanent state if they’re Covid secure.

If they’re planning on laying people off, you’d be placing yourself right in the firing line. Plus, if there’s work to do, furlough won’t apply and if you get a docs note, then you would likely receive ssp which is only around £90 a week.

If you’re fearful about returning, speak to them to avoid falling foul of HR regs. All my team are back now and we’re recruiting too. I wouldn’t accept someone not coming back and leaving them on furlough, it’s too big a business risk should HMRC come knocking on the door 🙂

Thank you for your advice, but my circumstances are now, thank G-d, such, that I can put me first and take no risks with my health or, indeed, life.

Yes I did receive one (dated 22 June) and mine was signed by Matt (Hancock) and Robert (Jenrick).

Very minor changes from 6 July but from 1st August "the advice to shield will be paused." I'm sure you will find all the latest advice on the gov.uk website.

Ah yes - the one from "Matt and his little pal" as a friend of mine put it... 🙄😂

That's not fair!...we don't get the personal touch of ministers signing our shielding letters here in Wales! Think my last one was from the Director of Public Health Wales or something like that. Salt of the earth are Matt and Bob!

Your not missing much .. other than garbled advice

I had mine at the end of June, and my surname starts with W!! It's 4 pages long and I had to read it several times to process it all. So today I visited my brother 's house for the first time to share a cuppa with my 90 year old mum, it felt very strange to be in some one elses home.

How lovely for you to time with family in their home. I wasnt aware we could go inside homes yet? I'm longing to have a cuppa with my mum in her home like we used to so. Not been inside anywhere since lockdown.

Yes you can form a bubble with one other family. If they have been shielding and yourself then you can visit at home and even stay the night. I have had my daughter and granddaughter visit for Sunday lunch. Was amazing after such a long time. No kissing of course and we avoid touching each other’s face but I did cuddle my granddaughter around my middle. 🤗🤗🤗this is England’s advice by the way. Hope this helps Hun. Good luck meeting your mum.

Awww how lovely Typsey. I long to hug my mum & grandson. I dont think the bubble applies to us tho as my mum is over 70 so isolated until she was allowed a bubble. She chose my sister as I was shielding (& obv am until 1 aug) & I have a hubby so dont think can have a bubble/go inside until after 1 aug. But please correct me if I'm wrong. There are so many changing rules its not surprised we are all confused.

Ah I see . My shielding letter said I could meet up to 6 people after end of June outside social distancing of course. I haven’t got to that stage yet . Still a bit wary of gatherings. Hopefully August will come quickly for you and you can at least have some sort of meeting with your mum and grandson. It’s an awful time and I agree the advice can be somewhat confusing. I also think it’s down to yourself and how you feel. . Best of luck anyway and keep safe and as well as can be .🤗🤗

Yes I got mine a few days after the announcement In June then started getting calls from our local council which I hadn’t received before. A very nice lady Volunteer has now called me weekly to see if I need anything. Which I don’t.

Yes I got mine two days after the announcement.Waste of paper. I'll do what I feel is right for me. Which basically means I won't be making any major changes in a hurry. As I'm retired, thankfully I won't have to worry about work.

Hi, i received mine the day after notification.

Have been getting weekly updates to information on government e mails, so now confused. And will do what i think is best.

Bit Shakespearean, to shop, or not to shop.....

Better to stay in or seek the mud and mire of my local lane...

Yes, I had mine the very next day after Matt Hancock’s big speech. Four pages and signed by him repeating everything he’d said including shielding pausing after 31 July.

I had a letter from the government to continue sheilding until 1st august. I don't get out anywhere apart from hospital and to the doctors so it doesn't bother me

Thingybob profile image
Thingybob

Nope, i haven't had one. But I didn't get one telling me I should shield in the first place until the end of may, the day after they said that shielders could go out for a walk !

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Thingybob

Me neither...I’m busy getting on with my life ...deciding for myself what I feel is safe and what isn’t. If “they “ couldn’t be bothered to tell me back in March what I should do - I’m not hanging on their every word telling me what I should do now.

Common sense tells me to wear a mask in Tescos...take it off in the car....There is not much else to decide really.

Just wish I could book a flight to get away to the sunshine...but every flight I try to book is cancelled.
