Has anyone had a letter with new guidance for vulnerable after full unlocking on Monday?

Hi guys and girls,

I heard that the GOV was issuing new guidance for the CEV for the period after the 19th of July. I've not received any letter on this, has anyone else?

I can sort of imagine what it would say and will look at the GOV web page to see if it's there also, but a letter would have been nice.

Thanks folks

Do we need a letter? I think we all know what to do by now so we have to each do what helps us keep safe and makes us feel safe. 😊

Deminem in reply to KittyJ

Very true Kitty, couldn't agree more.

Heres the kicker though, the Gov has the monopoly on all the covid data, we don't know the real extent of it in any aspect, we just know what they tell us.

The info to CEV is more nuanced and detailed than what's released to the general public, which is why a letter would be appreciated.

KittyJ profile image
KittyJ in reply to Deminem

The CEV list covers so many people with so many different illnesses and vulnerabilities that any letter cannot cover them all. Look at the fiasco of the last CEV letters. I’ll be interested to see if my 25 year old, healthy daughter gets any letter, she did last time 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not yet. I'm expecting it to go along the lines of Dear ladies and gents we are throwing you to the wolves because quite frankly we don't care what happens to you now, we can't afford to pay out any more money so you're now on your own 🤷‍♀️. The government doesn't care about CEV people it's going to be survival of the fittest.....rant over. I for one will still wear my mask and try to keep away from the hordes who really don't care. 🙄

Brilliant, that's how I feel 😀yes it's on gov site and says things like , go back to work but talk to your employer if you feel unsafe

😂

I'll give it 6 weeks till it's back to a lockdown of some sort, I'm lucky I don't have to go back to work but I feel for the thousands that have to. I've always been a sensible level headed person but I'm starting to panic a bit at the thought of what could happen 😬

I concur Bootoo!

I think it's glaringly obv to most that with the virus being left to rip through the younger population(who I feel bad for)it's only a matter of time before a new variant that escapes the vaccine appears. Look how quickly the kent variant emerged from the Alpha one.

The youngsters have been thrown to the lions, being left last to be vaccinated and deemed strong enough to give the rest of our numbers herd immunity.

Bootoo profile image
Bootoo in reply to Deminem

I agree, the younger people should have been vaccinated 1st in my opinion 👍

It's all looking a little worrying eh?! bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57858864 We just have to do what we think is right for ourselves, yep.. but, basically, maybe semi- or full shield if you were before.. and certainly ask your docs what they think. Surely they must have a duty to be honest with us.... Thanks for the chuckle Bootoo.

I thought 19th was make up your own mind day?The politicians can’t decide …in case it comes back to bite them…..so at last we have to decide for ourselves …..which most have been doing anyway!

I shall wear my mask as I think appropriate…& keep my distance from strangers…but as I don’t live in a huggy bubble……I shan’t have to run a mile if someone tries to give me a cuddle!

But tbh…I would not be at all surprised if something unexpected pops up!

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Neonkittie17

Why can’t BJ just endorse what the medics are saying….the vaccinations are working…but only if you make the effort to get a jab…..please don’t just presume there will be a medical team there to treat you….if you get Covid because you don’t bother to get vaccinated ….because if things get much worse…there won’t be.

And Remember…… Long Covid could be for life!

Keep to the common sense rules…wear a mask where necessary …., keep an appropriate distance & spread the word…..,,,it’s up to each & every one if us to get vaccinated & to protect each other.

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to AgedCrone

Absolutely to all of that. The only thing that could make Boris u turn is if the NHS can’t cope. Even though he’s been saying irreversible road map for such a long time, he said more more recently we don’t want to have to go back on what we said ... which is different.

I saw an area health officer on TV last night…and he said if infections continue increasing at the present rate in his area they will have to start transferring patients out of area because their Covid beds are almost full.He particularly mentioned how many young people are now being admitted….& that Long Covid is getting more prevalent.

I do wonder what it will take to persuade people …of any age…..to get vaccinated?

I do understand it will not stop you getting Covid..but it will control the severity of the illness you experience.

By the way, I saw something in the Press (the i newspaper perhaps?) which explains why we seem to have been forgotten recently. In a nutshell, WE HAVE!

This is because it was Dr Jenny Harries that was in charge of producing all the advice for the "shielders" in her previous role, but when she accepted her new post as Head of UK Health Security Agency, her previous post was left unfilled AND STILL IS!

So best not to expect an official letter anytime soon. 🙄

I honestly don’t think they will send out, and if it’s a replica of the online guidance, it’s only good use will be as toilet paper. Advising CEV to stay away from unvaccinated is ridiculous, how are you supposed to know who’s been vaccinated. The guidance could of been written by a 5yr old. You will be safer following your own common sense

Lolabridge profile image

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to Runrig01

Yes I think it would be the same as the notes on the Gov. site. (Toilet paper 🤣) The only thing that makes me think they may send it is if they feel some people may not have access online? That’s a minority I know.

Welll…I just got this…so the Government must have something to say on 19th.

In living memory I have never bought groceries from Asda….so where they got my details from……goodness knows…….

“Hi Asda Priority Customer

As an Asda customer, we wanted to offer our support to you during the recent challenging times.

For this reason, we allocated an Asda Priority Pass to your account. This pass has given you:

access to delivery slots up to 3 weeks in advance, instead of 2 weeks

a personalised, guaranteed, and convenient recurring slot.

We hope this has made shopping safer and easier for you.

Now Covid restrictions are lifting, your Priority Pass will come to end on Tuesday 31 August.

We hope you’ll continue to shop with us and continue to benefit from the ease and convenience of shopping online. Here’s what you can do next.

Continuing with a pass

If you found your Priority Pass helpful, you can switch to a Delivery Pass.

Well look what I missed out on……..but as the closest Asda to my house is12 miles away….I don’t think I will be taking up their new kind offer!

I got this too AC, bit of a mute point from Asda as they cut most of us off the list eons ago.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Deminem

As I say I have never shopped at Asda….there must have been some sort of list doing the rounds when priority supermarket food delivery was first thought of.I was very lucky & just emailed my order to my next door neighbour once a week & they picked up my shopping along with theirs.

Deminem profile image
Deminem in reply to AgedCrone

wow, I'm moving next to your neighbour asap! ;)

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Deminem

Sadly they moved away…but they still offered to shop for me.When I said it wasn’t necessary…they said that’s what neighbours are for…..they have even been helping me take stuff to the Tip prior to my move as we are only allowed to go every fortnight!

Runrig01 profile image
Runrig01 in reply to AgedCrone

I got one too. I never used them but when shielding initially started last year they offered me a slot. I did use it as they were the only one to guarantee a set weekly slot. I got fed up of the amount of goods out of stock or unsuitable substitutions, that I decided to stop and order from Sainsbury’s which is where I mostly shop. Never had an issue getting a slot each week with them either. Asda did offer free delivery for the first 6 months. I think all supermarkets have provided a good service to us CEV.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Runrig01

As I said I was lucky enough to have kind neighbours…but as you say the supermarkets have provided a good service. All the staff I have come across in the supermarket..…wearing their masks for a whole shift have been pleasant & cheerful.

More than I can say about local GP services….whingeing they can’t see patients face to face because because they have to clean the chairs between patients.

Even now…with good weather…& good size outside space…I don’t know of any offering f2f with worried patients to triage any that just may need help.

Rant over!

Runrig01 profile image
Runrig01 in reply to AgedCrone

Sorry to hear about your GP surgery. Mine have been excellent, most times I’ve contacted them I’ve had a face 2 face, unless it’s just a prescription I need. Gp surgeries have been told to offer more F2F although think telephone consults are here to stay. Stay safe 🤗

medway-lady profile image
medway-lady in reply to AgedCrone

Our GP's nurses were using the huge car park to do blood tests and a lot of us asked why don't the GP's then use the nurses rooms? There are several of them so like my dentist he changes surgeries between patients to allow the satiation stuff to work, the GP's could do the same. I think we're going towards a huge mega practice and it bodes ill for the future. Mind you I did write in when a doctor issued a script for a medication that contained penicillin and I'm allergic to that. A phone call in hours and a follow up and would you like to pop down etc. Imagine if I'd not read the PIL just taken it. ! Proved though they are not reading patient notes and as I was told it is their legal duty to read them but do they ? errr not always.............

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to medway-lady

It’s alarming when they are caught out how they wriggle isn’t it?

I recently read my patient notes & it was scary. They say I have conditions I have never had…that I refused the Shingles vaccine…just “Patient declined” no mention of the reason…& ditto with penicillin….but luckily my pharmacist picked that up.

When ever they ask me if I am allergic to anything and I say penicillin they ask me “how do you know? I now just say “believe me I know”.

What idiot would make up being allergic to something?

I told this practice I was leaving back in May when I thought I was moving house …now they keep on asking me when am I going to move?I think they are terrified I might drop dead & they will be thought responsible.

Brilliant thanks hun! It's good to have the full info, had a read-through. They are really strong on the old mask wearing for us CEV with it being a "must wear in shops and transport" Funny that isn't it, when it's said widely that we wear a mask mainly to protect other people, and almost all of those other people have been told they don't need to wear one, what's up with that!! I received an email saying I was no longer eligible for priority delivery from supermarkets. Never got letter but did challenge Morrison’s when trying and failing to book a delivery slot and received notification from Morrison’s that I was a priority- not the government! Hi! I had a text from my daughters mum in law yesterday saying: did you book your 2nd vax yet?I’ve yet to reply. I’ve briefly (she’s 110% fit, American and isn’t interested) given her the fallout from my first AZ jab, which I’m not yet recovered from and told her I was vulnerable on my own and reluctant to go for a second round in that ring. So now I guess if I catch Covid I’ll be all to blame, and if I have the second jab I’ll have to cover up the fallout from my 7months pregnant daughter who I hardly see. The future with the Delta looks as though we will all need cross vaccinating with other types. So I may go for the Pfizer which my doc says has proved efficacious when coupled with the OAZ as a first.

I guess she needs an answer (mil) but my daughter has had her first vax and intends to have the second soon (terrifyingly) and cannot see my problem.

I have heart problems and that’s why I went for OAZ. Pfizer is trickier. Oy vey! We are all going to die sometime, but not yet!

allanah profile image
allanah in reply to Lollybygolly

Talk to your doctor, they can do jabs under medical supervision in hospital if needed. However at our centre there were lots of doctors nurses and paramedics. I. Sure your gp is well aware of your situation and could formulate a plan to keep you safe xxx

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to allanah

Trouble is the reaction you get to the vaccinations is not always immediate….I had a really bad reaction after about a week…. to the first jab….111 told me to call my GP! Which as I couldn’t stand up was useless….no way would the GP have come out to me. So good old rheumy sorted things. Then having waited until I could face it…..I had another bad reaction to the second dose…didn’t bother with 111…..went straight to ophthalmologist as I lost partial sight in my eye….but I reckoned it was better to chance the second vaccination…..than to pick up Covid…

Now I’m wondering whether to chance another nasty reaction & have the so called Autumn booster……but as we 99% won’t be able to travel until next year….I guess I might as well get it over with & get all the jabs under my belt….for when/if we can get away?. Just in time for the rules to change again.

But I might change my mind tomorrow!

Deminem profile image
Deminem in reply to AgedCrone

That's really really ruff AC. Sorry to hear you've been through all that from the vaccines. I was bad with AZ for a month after but not like you describe, that's just awful. I heard the booster may likely be Pfizer, which brand was your last ones?

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Deminem

I had two AZ jabs as they were “thought” to be less likely to cause CNS problems…..well so much for that theory.I am also handicapped by only being able to have injections/infusions in one arm…so if it is decided to do the Influenza jab in one arm & Covid in the other…I guess someone will just toss a coin?

allanah profile image
allanah in reply to AgedCrone

I had steroids after my jabs but I think still worth talking to doctors and better than covid

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to allanah

The problem is professor or Junior med student….nobody knows why each person reacts differently to the same vaccination….I’m seeing a consultant haematologist next week…but I expect his expensive considered opinion will be ….let’s wait until closer to decision time…& see what the neurologist says.

Me and my wife are classed as extremely vulnerable, we both got the previous letters but have not seen any this time. We both have had a message from Asda stating our special treatment will be extended to 31/08/21. Although we ceased using their delivery system as they make to many mistakes, but at least not as bad as Sainsbury's who refuse refunds unless you place another order.

I’ve got Covid at the moment, day four today :( I have RA and am on certolizumab pegol (cimzia) I work in hospitality in Cornwall & had no option to return back to work… I have been so so careful, I’ve not been going anywhere but work but my fear happened. I spent 9 months shielding last year. I’ve unfortunately been quite unwell with covid. I’ve had both vaccines- but again, they don’t know if I’ve had enough of an immune response as I am on anti TNF. Just so many unknowns… I’m 38 but this has hit me hard. I’m really feeling anxious about going back to work after going through this.

Do you know who will get letters?

Oh that's awful for you Sarah, thinking of you.

I'm sure the vaccines will have given you some immune response. Did you feel ruff after the vaccines? Now after catching it you should have an even more well-equipped immune. If you do have to return to work you'll have as good a defence as any CEV person can with all your antibodies so try not to worry too much, hard I know and so unfair as you tried your hardest to avoid this. Thinking of you x

There won’t be any letters unless there is a big turnaround….which is very unlikely…even though SJ has tested positive. All anybody can do is be careful …..which as you have found is not enough but I very much doubt if they are going to bring back shielding….unless the medics insist.

You must ask your GP to sign you off sick for as long as you feel you need to be at home….but one doesn’t know what instructions GPs will be given.

I do hope you feel better very soon….at least you have age on your side.
