It was so horribly wet I couldn't get a photo of Ivar for you but here he is enjoying his nice new 'welcome to your furever home' present. He is called Ivar because of the tv series 'Vikings'. My son is vegetarian and, although he is happy to give his dogs meat, he cannot bear to give them bones. Hence Ivar the boneless

He is lovely!

And so friendly too. He only left kennels a month ago having lived there for nearly two years, poor little sausage

He is gorgeous. Not too great on dog breeds but is he a greyhound? They are so gentle and elegant. Wishing him much happiness in his forever home.

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Fruitandnutcase

Yes, ex-racing prize winning greyhound. I couldn't have one. I'd over feed it

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply to Gnarli

Perish the thought. I can’t imagine a fat greyhound. I was out for a walk today and came across an extremely chunky staffie. The friend I was with said it wasn’t due to lack of exercise because he does a good walk every day. Guess he has too many titbits.

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Fruitandnutcase

Quite likely too many treats. Being overweight is as bad for our pets as it is for us

🥰🥰 the same gentle face as my Darcy oh and the streamlined ears😁with eyes that look into your soul ( with a cheeky glint) lovely

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli

Oh. The ears! He looks as though he came in kit form with two left ears but, yes, the glint is definitely there.

Like a whippet on wheatabix....or greyhound on granola!! He looks so placid and I hear that they are good companions.

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Pippy25

And very lazy, I understand. Unless they get the zoomies or they can let rip every now and again

springcross profile image
springcross in reply to Gnarli

😂😂😂 I don't know what the zoomies are but I had a good guess!!

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to springcross

You'd be right. I used to call it doing 'wall of death' circuits

springcross profile image
springcross in reply to Gnarli

We had rescue border collie X several years ago and he used to get like that, as if he was rounding up sheep then one day he came scooting past me going like the clappers and clipped my leg as he did so - I went up in the air (literally) and I'm sure I did a half somersault and landed flat on my face. It really hurt and did he get a telling off. 😊

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to springcross

Oooh. Nasty. I'm sure he was truly sorry though. Rescues are probably the best breed to have

springcross profile image
springcross in reply to Gnarli

Oh he was gorgeous, just a bit young and wild when we first had him and would not come back when he was called but he ended up a really good lad and I loved him very much. x

in reply to springcross

A zoomie is a wonderful thing . They do it when they are happy. They just take off running around at full speed changing directions with a huge smile on their face 🥰

Gnarli profile image

Full of the joy of living. It's so lovely to see

springcross profile image

Yes, I saw that on one of my dogs (not greyhound though).

MadBunny profile image

Rabbits do that too-ours goes round the living room, though the kitchen, into the garden and back again. He sometimes confines it to the living room and up and down the sofa. They also do a little leap and flick up their back legs and bum.We always know when he's about to go as he shakes his head!

in reply to MadBunny

Isn’t it lovely to watch these things

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to

Yes.I love to see them so full of joy.A happy bunny to use a cliche!

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to MadBunny

Oh how lovely! I'd love to see that

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to Gnarli

Unfortunately I've never managed to capture it as I've never had my camera to hand and he launches himself so quickly. There are lots of bunny videos on you tube so you'd probably find something on there. The rabbit version of a zoomie is called a binky!🐇

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to MadBunny

Well who knew it had a name. I certainly didn't. We get wild rabbits in the garden at this time of year and, although they really aren't welcomed, they do make for fascinating watching

springcross profile image

Aww, he's gorgeous. He'll be very happy with your son no doubt. x

Boxerlady profile image

Boxers get the zoomies too 😊 One of ours used to do circuits of our large wild pond keeping himself just (usually!) above the water level like the Wall of Death motorcycle riders 😂 As they're very solid dogs and very single minded it definitely isn't a good idea to get between them and a toy when they're moving at speed - as I know far too well!

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Boxerlady

Oh wow! No, I imagine a small misjudgment on either side could be really painful. I love seeing boxers with tails, they look so athletic and slightly aloof. They do have the wettest kiss in the world don't they?

Pippy25 profile image
Pippy25 in reply to Boxerlady

Yes I have experienced a friend's giddy boxer in full flight and yes you are right they are a solid dog! :-)

Having been literally run over by both a great dane (you know, paw prints up the back) and a yearling colt in the space of a week I have reputation for being in the wrong place

Pippy25 profile image
Pippy25 in reply to Gnarli

Oh no Gnarli.I was the same with the paw prints everywhere, as it came bounding as if on a set of 4 coiled bed springs towards me with no where for me to go.

Simply beautiful. I have a wonderful Cockapoo, she's only two but got her as a puppy. However, I also have two rescue cats whom the shelter thought were going to be lifers! It took me two years to handle one of them as they had been so abused. Now, they're as soft as clarts and the vets love them, calling them angels -so easy to handle and so patient! It is unbelievably rewarding to take on these little souls. Made me smile all over- no doubt Ivar will bring great joy to you all. Enjoy!

Aaw lovely. Beautiful greyhound Ivar. Absolutely love greyhounds as J1707 knows. When I got my rescue greyhound she was really thin and I made the mistake of "feeding her up" and went a bit too far and she almost did end up a fat greyhound which is not a good idea. I had to reign myself in until she became the right shape again. They are the sweetest dog though, so gentle and slightly regal. My Poppy's favourite treats were a gravy bone biscuit and a bonio. Yum. ❤️

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Biofreak

I'm so glad you decided to rescue her. Poppy sounds so gorgeous. The number of greyhounds in rescue shelters is so saddening.

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to Gnarli

Yes there's so many in rescue centres and more than ever now because the centres haven't been able to do home checks because of Covid19. I would always get a dog from a rescue centre. Unfortunately my Poppy died in January this year so I'm currently dogless 😭 But she was with us for a good 9 years and was well loved.

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Biofreak

I'm so sorry to hear that. They take a part of your heart when they go don't they? I'm sure she knew how much she was loved

It's dangerous to give bones to dogs. They can splinter & cause all sorts of problems including choking so you're son is doing absolutely the right thing. Ivar is very handsome & looks happy and contented. Well done for rescuing him. All my dogs have been rescues and made excellent companions and pets.

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Knitmare

He's an experienced and conscientious dog person, he just loves a joke. The best breed out there is a rescue. I'm grateful he just has the two at the moment

Oh my word - what a beauty! Those soulful eyes. I love greyhounds but can't have one as wouldn't be able to walk it for starters!! I have 2 rescue cats (brothers) who, frankly, run rings around me and outwit me on a daily basis!

Several years ago when I started sponsoring a dog at Dogs' Trust, I deliberately chose a greyhound. I was actually allowed to go and meet him once too - a big beautiful boy. Amazingly, they did then manage to rehome him, so happy ending there. I support the retired greyhound trust too and look forward to their regular magazines (apart from the rainbow bridge section which I can't bear to look at as it gets me blubbing for the rest of the day)!

Your son sounds like a lovely person, and I think a certain doggie is now going to be a very happy, much loved boy!😊😊

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Kags1068

Thank you. Well done for your sponsoring the greyhound and belonging to the trust. It's more than most would do. Unfortunately, they are not usually safe with small furries so we won't be able to excercise our dogs together. I'm his mum so have to agree that Andrew is a bit special

Kags1068 profile image
Kags1068 in reply to Gnarli

Haha - as his mum of course you do - it's the law isn't it😁😁

Kags1068 profile image
Kags1068 in reply to Gnarli

Haha! Oops - the perils of dyeing your own hair, eh? Fingers crossed he learned his lesson from that one! Actually ..... what am I saying- he may have wanted it to be bright red!! Showing my age, by being all sensible now .......!😁😁

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Kags1068

No, it was deliberate. I think he may be hitting his mid-life crisis.

I am jealous, of the doggy though the cushions look comfy too!

Gnarli profile image
Gnarli in reply to Niao

I'd be tempted to fight him for the cushiony bed but I reckon he'd win. He is a sweety but not safe with small furries like ours

Niao profile image
Niao in reply to Gnarli

He does look like a big softie! We lost our beloved rescue doggy in June, had her 10 years. Still not come to terms with it or ready to look for another cuddly companion. No doubt we will do as before her we had another rescue. My partner is really suffering, being the one able to go for walks etc. He'd love a greyhound , me too but I have always been reticent due to memories of a neighbour's dog killing other neighbours cats. We don't have smaller furries at present but many cats hang around our garden as I'm big on feeding the birds!

in reply to Niao

Morning Niao I’ve a greyhound I have posted pictures in the past. They are truly gentle. If you get one from the greyhound trust they cat / other breads and children test them they will tell you which ones don’t like cats. My hubby and son was not so sure on this breed but now agree this is the breed for

them. You can become a volunteer Walker first get to know them if you want to try before you buy . We have no regrets x

Niao profile image
Niao in reply to

Thank you, I may well consider this. I adore all dogs, all animals/birds in general! Our last 2 rescues chose us! Having had a Border Collie, and adoring collies, I thought that's what we'd look for last time but our strange mix of Staffy/Rottweiler/Doberman/Labradorite had other ideas!

in reply to Niao

😂😂😂I know what you mean we went in looking for a small greyhound and we’re shown these lovely little ladies but our Darcy was out for a run and ran up to me and was all over me so enthusiastic so we took her for a walk along with another smaller greyhound but there was no doubt she had chosen us. She cried as we left... that was it she had stolen our heart’s ❤️
