Neck pain

hi everyone just a quick update. I put a status up about 2 weeks ago saying when I stretched my back and tilted my head back that my body would go into a spasm and everyone thought it was funny. Well I have been to see a spinal specialist and I have got atlanto axial instability and I have to have an operation on my spine.

Hi jaqi1

It's a bit scary isn't it? I had this and had the neck fusion op back in 2009. It's certainly not something anyone wants to have, but as I expect they have told you, it's a necessity for the safety of your neck and the risk of spinal cord compression.

I wish you the very best with it all.🙂

Dont be scared, my spinal surgery was the well this will sound weird but very nice ! I had my own nurse who was lovely and mine ( upper spine) wasnt to painful. They gave me a booklet full of complications to read and sign ...yikes !!! which was scary, but it all went very well and the pain I had which was awful pre op was gone ...

Good luck when it happens!,

Depends where on the spine you are getting the surgery !!!mine upper spine , 3 days hospital., recovered 6 weeks , different areas are different of course, youd need to ask about your specific area .....

Oooh nasty. I hope your operation helps you and that it happens soon.

Doesn't sound funny at all. I'm so glad you've found out why you get the spasm but very sorry to hear you need surgery. Did they say when you will get your operation?

thank you so much x

I didn't see your earlier post but I definitely wouldn't have found it in the least bit funny. I am glad that the spinal surgeon has found out what the problem is and can understand you being concerned about having spinal surgery. I am in a similar position but mine is in my lower back. The pain I have there and at the very top of my legs is so bad that I can hardly move my legs at times and standing is very painful.

I had an MRI scan done just before the lockdown happened and it was found that I have misalignment of my spine and several prolapsed discs. I have a spinal surgeon ringing me on Tuesday next week although how he will be able to know what to do without being able to examine me or see how I walk I don't really know.

Do you mind me asking you in what area of the UK you will be having the surgery? (I assume that you are in the UK). I wish you all the best for this and that you don't have to wait for too long before the operation is done.

I was hoping that you might have lived in an area near to me as you were saying that your treatment was so good. I live in Northampton. Good luck with all your treatment and I wish you all the best. xx
