I posted what I thought was a simple question "a list of food you can eat when you have RA"
. The tremendous support, attention and caring I got from many members is indeed a statement of who you are as kind, compassionate human beings on this website. It's like I am having my best friends trying to share with me, what worked or did not work for them and what made a difference in the way they feel with RA. I have always been touched by your well meaning, good nature and good attitude when I post a question. I do want to thank each and all of you for your concerns to try to bring to my attention the importance of taking the medicine for RA and not relying only on a diet.
I’m pleased you had lots of helpful responses even if many expressed concern that you are trying to deal with R.A. without meds.
May I suggest that if you continue to try to do without R.A. drugs you ask for regular scans and X-rays of your joints so the amount of damage can be monitored.
I have got my very aggressive And sero positive R.A. under control with drugs after 2 years but my joints have definitely suffered on the journey.
No one knows the answer to your question really Hannah.
It's a personal trial and error journey with RA.
Some people stick by their Rheumy's advice others try holistic medicines. I am trying and benefiting from CBD at the moment.
I agree that food alone is risky. I eat lots of fresh veg, fruits and fish most days. Nothing processed. No bread, dairy, gluten or meat. It works for me.
Dear AgeCrone, what I wrote was with you in mind. I do appreciate your caring. Like I said, from all the responses I got, it seems that taking the drugs is for most the best
decision. I must say that I tried this path already and I remember that the side effects took a toll on my health. I am not young, I am a senior citizen and my health was affected and that's why I decided to try something less stressful.
So it is still a decision I have to make after talking to my rheumy.
I am really pleased to know you have decided take some professional advice.
These days there are so many drugs available.........explain your worries to your doctors ...I’m sure they will take a softly softly approach with you.
I too am a senior citizen( very senior) and I am successfully settled on a Biologic drug, & am able to lead a very normal life.
One thing going on for you might be a drop in vitamin D level which tends to be low in us autoimmuners before all this ‘staying in doors’ kicked off and reduced our sunlight exposure. So it would be worth getting your levels checked (a simple blood test) and then taking a good quality supplement if needed (D3 is the ‘sunshine’ one). Also it might be worth looking at adding a good, preferably organic, kafir or plain yoghurt to your diet to boost gut health and see if that eases things for you.
