Hi everyone ...has anyone noticed symptoms of slow transit bowel or constipation since starting MTX injections? If so what do eat or take to help you out.

This is something I've always been prone to (I've got IBS-C) but it doesn't seem to have been affected by my Methotrexate - either tablets or injection. Keeping hydrated is the most important thing but there are various dietary things to try - extra fibre etc. - I always notice things slowing up if I haven't eaten enough wholegrain bread for instance; I've also taken Fybogel for years. It's tricky because it's yet another example of different things working for different people. Some people swear by kiwi fruit, for example but they've never done a thing for me 🥝🙄😏

I take extra fibre and drink lots of water

An easy way to boost fibre intake is to sprinkle linseeds, chia seeds or both onto cereal, into yogurt etc. Take a look at the fibre content .... 27g fibre per 100g

Organic milled flax seeds (I get mine from Sainsbury's, other supermarkets are available). A tablespoon a day, on cereal, in soup, in mashed banana, etc seems to be a great help. Plus lots of water.

Yes, I certainly have. I'm relying on Rennies taken each night which seem to help a bit - and also Senokot tablets - but I try to limit taking these. I always drink a lot of water and eat fruit so what I eat and drink doesn't seem to have any effect on me.... Sorry I can't be more help.

No matter how much fibre and fluid I consume, this wretched problem caused by many drugs in my case, just won’t respond. It was worst on MTX.

I am using low dose MTX to help anchor biologic drug infusions but the darn MTX is still having that horrible effect.

I take Dulcoease for at least three days a week to sort it but stopped MTX originally, due to this awful problem combined with intolerance of MTX at high dose. It caused severe weepiness at high dose but I managed over two years on it.

Yes I have and it’s not generally listed as an issue but I have noticed it and I always drink plenty and eat veg and fruit That and a headache are the main downsides for me
