Look up this document. It states if they get a vaccine, they are hoping do get millions if doses by September and vulnerable people would be first !

Working on the vaccine
Don’t get your hopes up Allanah...look on all the categories that are being considered.
No they did say one briefing it would not be live
I'm a little bit worried about vulnerable people having it first. Vaccines normally take years before they are approved and at the moment they are trying to speed things up. I have heard that one is already in human trials, but these people will be fit and healthy and not have toxic drugs sloshing around inside them. We all know how careful we have to be taking any other medications or health products along side our RA meds.
There's a virologist that answers questions every week day on my local radio, I know he's involved at the moment in trying to come up with one, I might phone the station and ask what sort of safeguards are in place for us.
I imagine they wont pass them for use until they have covered the same safeguards. But even so I cant live like this for years, my arm will be first out!!!
I think if any vaccine does appear in the near future .- . it will only be given to healthy people like those involved in the trials..I can’t see any chances being taken with the very young, very old or people with any type of serious health condition.
No I think they need to shielding group to get out ...
Yes, but I agree with Crone. Because it's a vaccine for a totally new virus they will be very likely to need to monitor how it affects healthy recipients first, maybe for an extended period.
If a vaccine is produced, and that is still an "if" they will want to ensure that it presents no risk to the auto immune community especially.
I react to all vaccines, even a simple flu jab.
I remember being on shift at work when the swine flu vaccine was given out by occupational health. Half the staff were sent home by lunch time because of fevers, D&V and other symptoms. They were in no fit state to look after patients
They were back to work with a day or so but I vividly remember it as it wasn't expected at all.
I had swine flu . No 2 in the country diagnosed . I'd rather have a bad day than the three weeks of hell and six months of fatigue from that
I had swine flu too. Caught from a patient. Fortunately I was given tamiflu and felt better within 48 hrs but my partner who caught it from me didn't get tamiflu because he was non NHS.
I'm not against a vaccine by any means. I am pro vaccination. All I was saying is that because of my personal circumstances which is a multi AI disease plus primary immune deficiency, I will be very cautious about recieving a new vaccine as it may make me unwell in the initial circumstances.
Yes, I'd rather have a flare for 3-4 weeks like I do with most vaccines instead of getting corona, but I am still going to be cautious because I need to be.
The criteria for those volunteering in the Covid19 vaccine trials are you must be aged 18-55 & in good health.
The purpose is prevention, not test or cure.
Look how long it has taken to find a safe non live Shingles vaccine...& that is still not proven safe for people on certain Biologic drugs.
The CDC in Atlanta will only say “The jury still out”.
Hi Paula C, I read all the posts and your stood out for me. I am in the shielding category, have RA and on biological meds as well as mtx. I receive the annual flu jab, pneumonia jab, had swine flu jab and bird flu jab in the recent past. I’ll be glowing in the dark with all these chemicals in my blood.
I am grateful for all the support I’ve received over the past 8 years but a bit wary of a Covid-19 vaccine being available anytime soon. People understandably get carried away with cures, vaccines etc. Yes I’m in a vulnerable group like many others but will not be rushing to get the vaccine.
There are many strains of viruses, I don’t remember a SARS, MERS or Ebola vaccine being issued? Where does it end, big Pharma will make more fortunes out of this chaos and I wouldn’t be surprised if people like Bill Gates are already ahead of the game. Why would anyone want the Rights of Covid-19? Yes he does and he is not in the medical/health profession.
Something doesn’t sit right with me with all this Covid-19 and my heart goes out to victims and their families, keep an eye on Gates!!
Stay safe
Interesting to read your reply about the possibility the vaccine will be a live vaccine. I have 3 autoimmune conditions and am very wary of having any vaccination - live or otherwise. I would add that the conditions I have do not necessitate me taking immunosuppressants. Love to hear any other views.
As a nurse I have to totally disagree on the no vaccine stance. We would still have many dangerous pandemics and unnecessary death and suffering if we did not have vaccination.
But wouldn't some people be at risk of its live .. I have 3 auto immune illnesses have had pneumonia twice and have high BMI .. Its a worry
Where has this love vaccination come up. Didnt see it at all in the document ...
And cannot see why scientists would make a love vaccine as most of the world couldnt have it
I definitely think so. I can see where Allanah, the Nurse is coming from in what she says but I also still stand by my statement that people who have a “compromised” immune system should not risk a vaccine that can possibly induce another, maybe far worse, autoimmune condition. I know someone it happened to, so maybe I feel more strongly than others. At the end of the day, everyone will make up their own minds which is how it should be.
I have 3 autoimmune illnesses but only knew about having 1 until the other 2 were diagnosed .. I've had flu vaccine every year
It's a catch 22 .. I feel at risk of covid due to Illnesses others as well as auto immune but as I am not on immune supptessent meds I am not considered in a high risk group .. I know I am .. so it's hard as I would likely be advised to have the vaccine I guess we all have to take advise and decide if we will have any vaccine not just covid
I need to look into effects of any vaccine on anyone with immune illnesses .. I am ignorant about that to be honest
Only knowing I had one until this year I always had my flu one
Yes do your research and make your mind up. You sound in the same position as me with having autoimmune conditions but not the really bad ones that require immunosuppressants. Personally don’t want to risk it. Yes I may get Covid, god forbid - but that’s a chance ive got to take.
If a vaccine does appear, personally I will be sitting on the sidelines watching how it pans out. If it is live....which is doubtful with so little available research....I will definitely pass.
No way am I being vaccinated this coming winter by something that has no track record of success.
I am 70+ just the ag group who should benefit...but I prefer to take my chances & wait & see!
Flu and covid out thus winter...you would be best vaccinated I think
Vaccines are given to healthy people...they are not a treatment or a cure...they are given to build up resistance to a dangerous illness like Smallpox,TB ,Influenza or this latest Covid19 virus.
The research time is usually in years...not months.
I think there should be much more transparency about how this proposed vaccine is being tested....,ie will it only be given to a certain age group?
I doubt it is being tested right now on children or the 70+ age group....so will they be eligible to have it ?
I really don’t think we should be relying on a Covid19 vaccine being available in the next few months,
It isn’t secret that right now trials are being carried out on a certain age group in all countries .....& it has been publicised that there are community research budgets... at least in Europe....so I would imagine the first available vaccines will be offered to healthy people - not the very young , not the very old...& certainly not those with compromising health conditions.
There will need to be much more concentrated testing on the effect various drugs will have on the efficacy of any vaccine.
Sadly it will take time....so I really think we should continue to take good care, & not think a vaccine will be on line in the near future for everyone .
If it is...it will be a wonderful bonus!
I agree if you look at the scientists namedvin the document, they are the best
But as far as has been publicised they aren’t researching on children and over 70’s and they can’t just give it to everybody in the hopes that it will be okay! i
It has to be found safe & effective on healthy adults first.....then investigated how it can be given to other groups.
You can’t just half the dose and giving it to a child.....
That is why a universal vaccine takes so long to Research,Test & Use!
You may remember a couple of years ago there was a vaccine out for the over 65’s.....for some reason that seems not to have been continued ....but no doubt research is still going ahead on it.
I thought health care workers would be first in line, just like in the swine flu pandemic.
Let’s face it ...right now there is no vaccine...so it’s academic who will get it.
No doubt front line medics not on any drugs & in good health will be at the head of the queue.....let’s just hope they find a workable Potion soon.
Agreed. The media are once again hyping the public up about a vaccine being available to people in September. Highly irresponsible reporting as a vaccine has not even been made yet.
Yes, vaccines are being trialled but that doesn't mean that a vaccine will get approval any time soon. All I am hearing from my mefic friends and former colleagues is that a vaccine will take 18months minimum.
I had a call fromy ex-housemate today, a doc in ICU. He was checking in on me and told me to be realistic and not get my hopes up. Not being a cynic, but being a realist. We've not seen this virus before.
As you say, they need to get a good potion on the brew!
Going by what I heard a government minister and both of his sidekick boffins say week or so back, it would be front line health workers first followed by the most vunerable,
I'd have thought that it's a live vaccine as most are, and most protection comes from herd immunity anyway wether by vaccination or catching it and developing antibodies. It can't be secret as they've said many times the whole world is looking for a cure and vaccination. I saw the BBC report and I think it looked like they my have a hunch its going well. I do hope so, but will still carry on as usual and am prepared for a long haul. I'd gladly be a guinea pig and have it, if only as they must try it on vulnerable people and sometimes I think we just have to take a chance. I only wish the Shingles vaccination was available to the under 70's as it would have saved me a lot of pain. I can't in all honestly refuse something when as a parent I had my son and he in turn has had his child vaccinated, the children these days get vaccinations for so many things and if it wipes out diseases like Smallpox was eradicated then it can only be good. But I'm not a medical professional and its just a belief and hope that whoever or whichever nation or company finds the answer that it'll be shared amongst all mankind and the Secretary of State did say if Oxford has it then it will be manufactored at great speed as they are building the factory to produce a vaccine now and it would be sold at minimum cost to the third world.
Agree
I hate being stuck in but equally so I’m happy to wait. I remember 10 years ago and the Swine flu pandemic, I got the vaccination in the October and by the following January things started going wrong for me and by the May I was diagnosed with MCTD and then finally Lupus. It could be pure coincidence, it probably is, but it always makes me wonder. There is proof however that one of the Swine flu vaccines caused narcolepsy in children. We all need and want a vaccine but it can’t be rushed especially for those with an already overactive immune system.
That wasn’t what I meant. But if a drug works on that age group..it can then be worked out how /if it can be administered to the young & old.
Vaccines like any other drug are tailored to the recipient.... More tests have to be carried out on any new drugs before they are licensed for children.
You must have seen on PILs”Not licensed for children under X”?
Ajay....there is no Covid19 vaccine yet...all the laboratories are trialling vaccines they hope will be the one......but none of them are giving a date when it will be Publicly available.
Of course not !! The trials arent finished, but they are looking positive is what today's release was about , of course they cant put a date on it , but early dates given by them and the government are September 2020.
And as I said initially ....fingers blooming crossed .......
Why the heck would they go to all the bother of trials, metaanalysus, human trials, safety ....if they could only give it to a small group of people! That's not how it works!
In fact the Chinese send the WHO viruses every year to be included in the influenza vaccine we have every year.
In fact if they did not send those viruses the west would have great difficulty knowing which viruses to put into our annual influenza vaccines.
Ajay I think you need to put the link up to this information so it is clearer what they are saying 😊
Night all. I hope it does come, the trials are successful.and we all beat this disease x
A couple of weeks ago at one of the daily briefings, when asked who would be first in line to be vaccinated when one became available, whoever the government minister was said front line health workers would be given priority followed by the most vunerable, can't say I heard him say old and most vunerable but he may have. He then asked what both his sidekick boffins thought and they said the same. How much reliance you can put on that is anyones guess.
I won't hold my breath for a safe vaccine being available to all in September.
Indeed
I heard about it too but In not getting my hopes up...
Me neither,
The gov minister, Amrid Sharma, who announced all that stuff about the vaccine in one of those daily government briefings, ended by admitting that we may never find an effective corvid vaccine! Now while that is perfectly fair comment, why did the minister see fit to give people the feel good factor and build their hopes up then come out with that statement at the end! In my opinion it would have been better to have just said that things are progressing well regarding a vaccine, or even nothing at all. People can call me a cynic, but I don't trust anything this government yaps on about.
Yes I heard that too and it actually upset me a bit.I can understand that they want to be cautious, and maybe they dont want us to get our hopes up too much in case it proves to be so ,but it was a strange and brutal way of saying it at a time when we all need positivity and hope. These politicians aren't very good at public speaking sometimes!Im cynical too-I suspect that they're covering themselves in advance to avoid being accused of lying - then if no vaccine is possible they can claim that they told us it might be the case.
I am very optimistic about a vaccine in the future but how long in the future is unknown yet. A vaccine that isn't tried and tested and rushed out would be a disaster so in one way the longer it takes the more likely the efficacy. Fortunately we live in a country that has some of the best scientists and medical professionals in the world. I agree with you. I am a great advocate of vaccination and would have it but wouldn't want to be one of the first recipients. I would want to see what, if any, the side effects are. x
I think even though I have awful problems with the flu vaccination and others too and I’m not supposed to have a live vaccine either I would still get the vaccination if it was made available. We are forgetting Corona virus has been around since the 1980’s just not the Covid 19 variety. You’re not telling me they haven’t been looking into vaccines for all the various strains and will use the knowledge they have to help with the current one ?? Just my thoughts but like others we will have to wait and see.
Ok guys. I'm not the government spokesperson for this. Get the document and read it . I'm not replying to any more !!
