isolation end date

Maybe someone can throw some light on the fact if you are told to isolate until the end of June because you have auto immune disease what difference does this make if I stop isolating on the 1st July maybe they know something I don't know - maybe the virus goes on holiday then ! or is it some other reason as whenever we stop isolating you could get I don't think there will be any cure for at least 18 months. Love to hear other opinions. 14penny

Theoretically less people infected and more ICU beds availableas each day goes by. Risk of complications unchanged. 🥵

And if they get the tracing app working you will be able to know who you are coming in contact with. But the capacity in the health system is a big thing, and they are learning all the time how to treat this as successfully as possible.

I'm glad you said 'if they get the app working' as they appear to have hit problems already according to some government MP on Sky news this morning. He said so far the trials on the Isle of Wight have seen an uptake of only 40% when at least 60% is required for the scheme to work, 'but it's still early days'. There also appears to be issues with the actual app, which is a UK design as it was thought to be more suitable than the type used in other countries, which according to the MP, we can now learn from...in other words, we will probably have to adopt. Yet another example of British exceptionalism at its finest. :-O

The app we ARE NOT using seems much more comprehensive than the one we are ..it tells you all the stats....how many new cases etc,& if you have been in contact...which if you have in most countries it automatically entitles you to a test with the result in 24. Hrs.

Here we apparently will just be told to isolate at home for 14 days...which if we then test negative is a waste of time....so who is going to lock themselves away for two weeks ...just in case?

My friends overseas have been using it for weeks & say it works well.

So why not use something that is already proven to work?

People are getting very sick while we wait to prove....WHAT?

When I first read your post I thought the reason we chose the app we did may have been because the government would not be able to provide the amount of testing and the 24 hour results. But there must surly be other countries using the more comprehensive app with less ability to test than us. Not for the first time I scratcheth my head! :-O

If the reports are to be believed the number of infections are expected to fall - so wouldn’t that mean less people would be In contact with the infected so less testing would be needed?

I’m confusing myself here.

I honestly can’t see the point of quarantining people for 14 days just in case? It’s not as if we have unlimited resources.

But TBH at the rate we are going .....the App could be superfluous by the time it’s on the streets. Is there any timetable for getting the results from the Isle of Wight?

One problem seems to be the old old conspiracy theory that the government may find find out your inside leg measure ment from your postcode. .....usually perpetuated by man on the Clapham omnibus who hasn’t got any secrets anyway!

Apparently the number of infections are falling now, but whether that continues as lockdown is lifted remains to be seen. The government probably want the app up and running just in case infections start increasing again and testing and tracing will be vital to try to quell the increase and avoid lockdown being reversed. Can't think of any other reason.

Any timetable for the IOW has probably been delayed as it's looking like the government will be dropping the current app and going with the other one, which they should have done from the start by the look of it.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to wishbone

Is that just your surmise...or has something been announced as it appears only 40% of the people on the IOW have downloaded “our”App ...and a minimum of 60% is needed?

I really can’t understand when the Govt were between a rock & a hard place,& time was of the essence they took the decision they did.

I guess that why they earn £100k+ & I don’t?

It's just my surmise, but I don't think it's far off the mark. Just did a little research and I can't find any mention of a timescale, other than the trial has been going on for one week. I'm guessing it would need the app downloaded on at least 60% of smartphones before a valid trial can take place.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to wishbone

Yes 60% is the min download needed.

It really is not too encouraging is it?

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply to AgedCrone

No it's not AC, and after hearing BoJo's speech last night I'm even more discouraged.

He might as well have not spoken....to tell people to go back to work this morning having made no arrangements on the safety of using public transport was unforgivable

Many politicians live in such a rarefied atmosphere with a “company” car at the front door.....someone should tell them the facts of life of the people they are telling to walk/cycle to work!

But anyone who could do that...should.

The economy must get going ......there must be money coming in to pay for education, health etc......the borrowing just can’t go on & on.

After all “the Gov” has no money...it’s our money & we will be the ones who pay the debt.

We shall hear more details later, but going by what he's said so far it does not seem well thought out to me. I was hoping they would have taken things more slowly but am not surprised that hasn't happened with this govermment. I don't think it will be long before infections begin to increase again, which could well cause even bigger problems with the economy than if we kept lockdown in place for longer, or have taken a more softly softly approach relaxing it. In my opinion the government have just stopped short of opening the floodgates.

Much of Boris Johnson's speech included a load of spin from what I can see...just what does "stay alert - control the virus - save lives" supposed to mean. Same goes for the new 1 - 5 virus alert scale they've devised, based on terrorist warnings apparently. The only use I can think for that is an underhanded way of trying to get around the R Number if it should rise above 1. Time shall tell no doubt, but I'm afraid that with the governments track record so far, I have little if any confidence or trust with what they say or do. Enuff said really!

Time for my meds me do think. :-)

Well I shall go for a long drive - there and back on Wednesday,

Might even get out of the car & go for a walk.

I decided a long time ago I am not going to stress myself over this and make myself feel worse than I already do because it will do absolutely no good at all.

Hope the meds hit the spot.

I believe we will keep getting letters with the dates changing for some time

That's just the government review date. Unless things improve drastically it will be extended potentially

As I can't stand or walk properly, even if the lockdown is lifted, I STILL won't be able to do my own shopping, orvisit my 89 year old dad. :-(

Once the R value comes down, so does the risk of catching Covid 19. If the R value starts to rise, we'll have to "put on the brakes" again.

I think the bottom line is that the gov needs to get manufacturing and other businesses going again as soon as possible to bring in tax and revenue to get income to pay for the debts they are racking up. So the calculation of economy vs acceptable R rate has been done by statisticians.

Those of us who are self isolating will just have to wait for a vaccine . The funding for that needs revenue in the gov coffers !!!. 🤔

I e also read that the app. Cannot be downloaded on phones older than three years. Maybe they were thinking g that the younger generation are the ones that are more likely to carry the virus. Goodness knows. The whole charade is ai very frustrating as guidance is all so very sketchy. We are all very vulnerable without a vaccine, which there has been little mention of recently.

Be alert and stay safe lol!!
