Shielding Letter #2

Hi all,

I have received a 2nd shielding letter dated 30th April and it states to continue shielding from this date, again for 12 weeks.

Has anyone else had one yet?

Thanks

A x

Not me....but no doubt some others will....somebody seems to have worked out how to post a letter.

It really is quite alarming how behind the curve Health Authorities seem to be getting to grips with the situation.

Only just testing the contact App on the Isle if Wight ...it is really quite alarming how behind we are.

I have friends living in the Middle East who have been using it successfully for weeks.

Yes it is very concerning. Hopefully all that need have letters arriving soon!

Hi Mcmayo

Is it from Gov/NHS/Rheumatology?

I got one from Rheumatology Dept over six weeks ago.

But one from Chief Medical Officer in Gov not yet received.

If you need support due to shielding, Gov should have you on a list compiled using info sent by GP/Specialist.

If the info not received by Gov, you won’t get a letter from them nor be identified as vulnerable; not priority for grocery delivery slots etc.

Had another today so 1 from Rheumatology Dept & other from NHS with lots of support info plus advisory to shield for 12 weeks from date of letter

Is the Rheumatology Dept not considered NHS?

I only got mine from Rheumatology with NHS logo as all their letters have.

It’s all more or less muddled, depending on location within the UK.

I had one from my gp dated 6thApril.2 weeks later I got a phone call from rheumatogy saying the same things and was told I might get another letter!Nothing arrived yet.Ive now been given 2 different starting dates for shielding😕To be honest I'd already decided in March to use common sense ,self isolate and not wait for any adviceI had a phone call from the gvt helpline yesterday. The lady I spoke to was really good, checking on my well being and whether I needed any help. More than anyone else has done so far!!!She registered me for priority online supermarket shopping if I need it.

I received the Gov one some 3 weeks after the lockdown, however my GP called a week after lockdown and said I’d should be shielding 12 weeks from the start date. My rheumy called 4 weeks after and said I should be shielding again from lockdown, they were late getting their letters out. I got their letter some 10 days after the call, it was the standard letter, so I assume again it’s 12 weeks from lockdown and not from the letter date. X

I've had two, first one was from the hospital and the second about a week or two later from my GP, both letters said the exact same thing, I think the hospital letter triggers the GP letter to be sent out.

Hmm.... I received two letters one from my rheumatology dept and one from govt basically saying the same thing, stay in home and garden. Actually neither letter used the phrase “shielding group”.

I had a telephone appt with my rheumatology nurse yesterday and she informed me that further letters are coming out in the next two weeks and that I will be reduced down a category to “self isolating” which will mean that I can go out for walks. She stressed not to touch anything (gates, park benches etc) and still not to go shopping etc and to keep a very good distance from others, hand washing etc.

I was quite surprised as I’m on benepali and methotrexate which affect the immune response. But actually the addition of daily walks in the village and countryside will be a welcome addition and improve my fitness. I will wait for the letter.

I think the important thing to remember is the NHS staff. They have to care for dying people every day and as long as the virus is around that will continue. Every day, they and their families are at risk. As the lock down is eased, every one of us, the whole population not just those at risk have to be really vigilant to prevent the spread.

Hi Mcmayo. I've had three shielding letters one from the government, one from the GP and the last one dated 22nd April from Rheumatology stating that I should isolate for 12 weeks. So I guess that takes me into end of July. I had decided to self isolate anyway. I've been recovering at home since first week of February as I cracked a rib and burst blood vessels so I feel like I've been isolating forever. Stay safe and well. xx

Had a letter 24 March from rheumatology but it wasunclear whether to shield or self isolate but spoke to GP finally y'day who tells me shd be shielding... will get daughter to read and interpret it as she has more sway with HI who refused to read it and has taken every opp to be in kitchen, which was unheard of b4. So shall ask her first, then work out wot 2do. Have asked rheumatology for written clarification not phone call [ mobile is my lifeline but have finally learned how to block others taking it. Nuff said. No more comments pse. xx
