Just had my visit from the district nurse and unfortunately, the ankle is infected.
The previous nurse had left three stitches in which was a challenge in getting them out! Blinking painful.
As the nurse won’t be back into the surgery until 2 ish, I’ve called GP to request an antibiotic. I really hope that’s all that’s needed as the thought of returning to hospital right now, fills me with dread!!
Now, I just need to find someone to pick up antibiotics as boots have informed they’re taking up to five days for deliveries.
Testing times for all of us x

Just spoken to GP and she’s emailing the chemist so they should be ready this afternoon.
Also spoke to her about the ‘Letter’- she couldn’t understand why I hadn’t had one but equally, seemed very unsure of the processes so is calling me back later.
God, the world seems so upside down , doesn’t it. I really feel for those in health care. Not just those on the front line so to speak but those that are trying to negotiate their way in a constantly fast moving and ever changing situation. X
It depends I suppose if you are in the shielding group on the chart or medium or lower risk whether you get the letter you e already registered though ?? You can also call your council to tell them if you want assistance xxx hope you feel better soon x
Growing glass....not meaning to be flippant about it, but that sounds quite lovely (as opposed to ground glass). I’m imagining tiny delicate tendrils of jewel coloured glass decorating the lobes of your lungs.
It seems to me that these damn letters have caused more problems than they have solved! No shielding here, so you just explain and in general everyone responds the right way. I had nurse come to house to take blood, and video consultations for medical appts. I don’t need shopping as OH does it, but if needed I would just ask local commune.
right now, I too am ok in so far as my daughter is able to assist. If however, she was to become unwell, I’d be stuck. So, the letter is helpful in terms of signposting community supports etc, should they be needed but I agree, the letters themselves have seemed to cause an awful lot of confusion.
I'm sorry to hear this, although I did expect it. But at least the infection was contained within the dressing area and hasn't tracked. Is the district nurse coming back to re-dress it with all the appropriate sterile dressing packs?
The world is upside down at this moment in time and those who are trying to sort things out are spinning a lot of 'plates' at the moment and trying to keep everything going aren't they?
No mum. Most of the back garden is tidy as hubby spent some time out at the weekend for me. I have baskets to do but i am going to wait until he comes back from the allotment. How good am i. lol. xxx
Oh bless you, that must have been awful and oh my three stitches were left! No wonder things weren't right! I hope that you can get those antibiotics and things start to heal and get better for you soon. Take care
It’s a bad pain day today and my fatigue has been ridiculous this week but being as kind as I can to myself and taking one day at a time. I’m learning slowly but surely. Gail x
So sorry, I deleted my last reply as I shouldn’t be moaning about me. I really do hope these antibiotics get on top of your infection for you as you have been through so much. Gail x
I ensure I move every hour and take my half hour lunch break too. Still struggling particularly with holding the phone. I’ll have a think about it and see if there is any other way round. Some of my calls can be an hour at a time so tricky but there must be a way. So sorry I felt so guilty for moaning so though best delete my post and type a reply to say why I had deleted it. x
Don’t be silly, moan away anytime although, I didn’t experience it as moaning at all!
Can you talk to work
About getting a headset for the phone ? This would prevent you needing to hold it? I have one and it makes the world of difference. Your work should be able to support you with things like this under reasonable adjustments.
I am a bit of a complicated person as have a hearing loss as well as sight loss and wear hearing aids too so have a lovely little device called a Roger pen that connects to my work mobile and transmits the conversation directly to my hearing aids and cuts out any background noise.
I use this in the office usually too but with the landline. I am not usually on the phone as much as I currently am as I usually see patients face to face so holding the phone all day is never a problem.
My employers and access to work have been so so supportive and I have lots of tech in place for my sight and hearing loss and with me working from home for only a few months I hope I don’t want to add any additional expense to them at the moment. I’ll see how I get on. Gail x
Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we can all get back to some sort of normality where works concerned but in the meantime , try to take wee mini breaks during the day and just put your feet up for ten mins or so. If only to rest your hands and head x
Thanks so much, that is really kind of you. You take good care and hope you manage to get lots of rest and those antibiotics start working very soon. x
The district nurse for the whole three stitches out today. I can’t tell you how painful it was ad the scab/ skin had grown over them. I had tears in my eyes but she was lovely.
Got the antibiotics this afternoon so I’ve taken the first one - they look like they should be given to horses, they’re massive!
It’s my first full day at work tomorrow, albeit from home but I’m glad as it distracts me.
