Well went shopping yesterday for a couple of elderly neighbours and i saw the best and worse of human nature . the best was a very old lady came along and the ques for the supermarket was very long a very old lady comes along and stands at the back of the que within seconds people are letting here along in que so much so she went straight to the front and in the supermarket .
Now for the worse while waiting in the que for the supermarket they let a maximum of 20 in then its one in one out . i was near the front the que and this couple were giving the more women at the door so much grieve it was horrific so much so someone in the que or the shop called the police out .
on a foot note i dropped this shopping off to my neighbours and they kept on insisting tocpay for my petrol . now to cut a long story short my grandmother always insisted on paying for petrol when i picked her up and my mother said she will be insulted if you dont take it so when i get back to work i am putting the money into the air ambulance box i feel so uncomfortable taking it but they would not take no for a answer

I had similar but not the same. Only a cue of 3 an old man was let directly in (rightly so) the chap behind me of about 50/55 said he was old and I said I was 62 he said he was 65(very unlikely) and he was moving closer to me and the more i moved away the more he moved towards me even when I said he was too close twice he ignored me, by that time they let me in the shop. Two others agreed he was a selfish twit. Im not going out again, it really unnerved me.
Even before this situation......there is a section of the community...who as soon as they get their first grey hair think it entitles them to metaphorically “go to the front of the queue”....in all sorts of situations.
If I’m not in a hurry I just think “what a wally”....but I must admit more often I point out where they should join the queue....as 9/10 they are younger than me!🤩
That is a good idea. I know what you mean about oldies wanting to pay for everything....I’m one of those oldies.
My next door neighbour is shopping for me & I feel really guilty (but really really grateful) when he lugs my shopping home every week - because I’m perfectly capable ...but if I’m an undiagnosed carrier....I could unknowingly infect hundreds,& should I catch CV19 I could take up an NHS bed which would be unforgivable
I’ve decided when this is all over, I will either buy him & his wife a lovely new plant for their garden, or if they prefer, make a donation to our local hospice.
Us oldies were alway told you reap what you sow...so thank you to all the kind people who are shopping/helping us....may you all prosper.
Before I was ordered to ‘shield’, my part time job is in customer service in a large supermarket. I see the best & worst on a daily basis! In my opinion the best outweighs the worst by a country mile! However, this current situation acts like a huge magnifying glass and the worst stands out like a huge sore. I hope that when this is over, we will have changed the mindsets of the few and overwhelmed their urge to be obnoxious. On this occasion, I really do ‘feel your pain’. ☹️😷
I am also shielding but before I stopped going to the shops I was thanking the assistants as they too are on the font line making sure the shelves are kept stocked. When I thanked one chap for helping me locate an item and for what they were doing for us, his reply was well you are the only one who has thanked me as all I'm getting is abuse these days. It made me sad to hear.
It’s just a thank you but it means so much to my colleagues. I had one chap accuse me and the store of holding stock in the back so that we could inflate the prices!! I offered to bring him all the pot plants, trampolines and squeaky toys he desired but unfortunately not one toilet roll! Please, keep thanking these previously underrated angels. 🙏😷
And no doubt he was the kind of guy who if you did bring out all the trampolines, squeaky toys and pot plants he would have bought those too! As I saw people buying large amounts of ridiculous things before I stopped shopping. Things like many Glade Plug ins and polish. I mean what's that all about...Can you imagine them saying 'I'm struggling to breathe but hey I got the last few Glade plug ins in the shop and I've polished the coffee table to within an inch of it's life and you'll never guess that glow white net curtain whitener may come in handy one day....when I get some net curtains!!' I consider the NHS, all emergency services, shop assistants, posties, refuse collectors, banks etc as heroes all for different reasons but all making sure we are looked after and providing services to ensure we are ok and I applaud them all. A smile or thank you costs nothing and means so much.
A lovely kind thing to do for your neighbours and for charity as they too will suffer the effects of this virus and some of the smaller charities may sadly fold. There will always be bad apples in the barrel in respect of selfish, loud and complaining people who act like overgrown tantruming children....they sadly never learn. While the rest of us have to abide and accept the ongoing changes...they paddy, whine and stamp their feet and refuse to conform or abide changes because they never have and show no empathy or regard for others. I was always brought up by if you can't afford it you either do without or save up for it and my parents were of the generation were they wanted to pay for everything....and it's rubbed off on me too.
