In these times, whilst I would never seek to disrespect anyone, it’s not high on my list of worries so, before anyone else feels the need to send me such private messages , let me say if you feel offended, then sorry but how I refer to him, if it is not swearing etc should be of no significant concern.

In general we never discuss politics, race or religion on here as we come from many different viewpoints.
But calling Boris Johnson BoJo is not much different from calling Thatcher Maggie or the Iron Lady, or calling Churchill Winnie. I think in these difficult times we need to be a bit more tolerant. It is only disrespectful if you want it to be.
Heck Marie. I liken that to a pedantic member from other shores who took exception to us calling our Rheumatologist Rheumy. It's easier to type for one thing & another it's nobody’s business what we choose to say but safe in the knowledge we are in the majority. Hey ho, also be happy in the knowledge it's bothered them more than it has you. After all, what did we call Mrs Thatcher? Most of us Maggie, that's even more familiar I would say. 😘

OMG! Someone took offense at Rheumy??? I'm in the US and have adopted the term. The name for Boris could be a nickname. I've got all kinds of nicknames for Trump. Must admit they aren't flattering.
It kind of is in so far as it's not the norm here to refer almost exclusively to a politician by their first name / chosen name rather than surname. We never saw headlines like "Tony says blah blah blah" or "John says blah blah blah" when we had Tony Blair or John Major

Looking at it again neither do I but thing is we have referred to PM's by other than their full name however it's shortened, Maggie being just one. 🤷♀️
Typically we refer to politicians by last name. We did say Barak a lot though. Never heard anyone refer to Trump as Donald. In general maybe we Americans are just less formal.

I couldn’t give shoot about what anybody calls the PM. I was sharing that a member private messaged me calling me out as being disrespectful because I referred to the PM AS bojo.

I'd block the sender. I'd not even thought about it as usually its just Boris for me. Why worry it not disrespectful just like Winny for Sir Wnston Churchill or Maggie for Mrs Thatcher it's good enough for the BBC at times. It might be a British thing though and somebody from overseas might not understand the peculiar type of humour we have at times. Rise above it and have to think that they must have a very sad life if thats all they can worry about. I'm much more worried about my son, DIL and grandchild to even have time to think about, never mind act on such trivia.
I think these times are going to make people in some ways a bit odd, or even stir crazy and thats being kind. It might make them feel big like saying to someone your punctuation is wrong in a text ! Its just why ???

That’s you’re opinion you’re entitled to it but I think the majority of people are not really bothered about you’re preference of parliament in this current situation.
Any government not taking serious actions to protect the people is not a great government.
They advised letting the virus spread through the population until a professor at Kings College informed them in no uncertain ways this was really irresponsible and that containing the spread was the best way to look after people.
Please note I shall not reply to any other comments about this government because it then becomes political which was not intended in the first place.
In difficult times people look to their government for solution and help.

I think what compelled Eiram50 to inform us was that she felt she was, as an adult, being scolded for taking the first two letters of Boris Johnson's name, it's not even derisive & sure he's been called worse. It didn’t help by her being singled out, & on private message not on open forum. It is not for us to take to task anyone for such a petty thing. I'm not sure the reasons (excuses?) you gave apply in this instance either, it was clear what was meant & not something you could take out of context.
As is used often nowadays but I think in this instance it does apply... in a world where we can be anything be kind.

I was having a laugh at the expense of The Queen Mother years ago, something about Gin and Dubonnet or being lucky enough to have a hip replacement at 90 something and my auntie absolutely went to town on me for being disrespectful.

wow I would have called him worse! And now he's going to be sending all those letters to people who already know we have to isolate ourselves? What a waste of funds which could have been used elsewhere.
He will be remembered in history as the PM who delayed delayed delayed and did nothing allowing the spread of covid-19 to get out of control.
Our doctors and NHS are sick of him, his so called expert advisers and his money saving inactivity.
But a lot of people on here don’t already know that, people think they’re high risk but on the information that came out yesterday they’re not so won’t be getting a letter. The letter will give clarity to a lot of people who aren’t sure. If you look back at all the posts on here about this you’ll see there’s many people who don’t know what to do.
I think most folk know - I received a text from GP surgery last week! Don't need a letter as nothing would be helpful in it anyway.
All Boris needs to do is make it clear DO NOT GO OUT but he won't say it or do it. So no We should all be self isolating anyway! No one should be going out at all.
