What a joke ! 😵

The current advice about safeguarding yourself and others from the Coronavirus includes washing hands regularly with soap and water. Fine. When you are out and about and no access to soap and water, use hand sanitizer gel. Can you get hand sanitizer gel?.... No sorry we're sold out, don't know when we are getting some more. Scratch that advice then! If you have a temperature and a cough contact 111 and self isolate. Can you buy a thermometer for love nor money to see if you have a temperature? No, we are sold out and we don't know when we are getting a new supply! Aaaaarh!!!!! It's a ruddy joke and a really bad one. Can't even get the basics right. The Government say don't panic we have been planning for this kind of situation for years. Sorry have I missed something? I know I'm ranting and raving and I'm being a pain but I need to get it off my chest. Aaaaarh that's better. Xxxx

Yes Britain is a joke, for most things IMHO.

But there are many ways to wash, and you don't need a thermometer to know you've got a fever.

Do what you can with what you got. Simple.

Thought I was in the twilight zone this afternoon though. When I was in the supermarket there were people arguing about toilet rolls and pasta !

in reply to Biofreak

It's so weird I was in a shop, everyone's manic, preparing for armageddon and I buy one item, for someone else. LoL.

We get all these instructions as to how to wash our hands but they all omit to mention to dry the hands well. Wet hands pick up more germs!

in reply to Gattina

So glad you posted this as in food hygiene always have to train the team dry dry dry hands too as germs love wet hands too!

widgie profile image
widgie in reply to Gattina

.... and how do you dry them? Use a clean towel each time? Use a source of hot air which could aid in spreading any virus a bit further

Gattina profile image
Gattina in reply to widgie

How about taking your own small towel around. Not exactly heavy to carry!!

This is so sad to see let alone hear this. Although no doubt the ones who are running round stockpiling and buying everything insight will be the ones who either don't get it or will have minimum impact upon as they must have some level of wellness and fitness to lug all this excessive shopping off the conveyor belt, into the car or transport, then out at the other end. I'm exhausted just watching them as my few items are consumed by the mountain of goods they are purchasing!

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to Pippy25

You are so right. I only buy things when I need them and have never stockpiled. If it carries on like this we will need to bring back ration books! 🙄

It's like extreme random Christmas shopping....but without the thought or celebration! Or a bit like Ready, Steady Cook...right I've got 50 packs of loo rolls, 20 packets of pasta, a hand sanitizer, thermometer, 40 tins of dog food and 90 tins of baked beans...what on earth am I going to do with them let alone where shall I put them!

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to Pippy25

🤣😂 Yes you would need a mansion to store it all. Or rent a storage unit. Crazy.

I've started watching ready steady cook since it came back on TV. I'm loving it. My guilty pleasure.

Pippy25 profile image

I'm sure they don't have to cook things from stockpiled items....or may be that could be a new challenge! :-)

Mmrr profile image
Mmrr in reply to Pippy25

Yes, they could have a few stockpile shows of foods past their 'best by' dates !

Not that I was around at that point in time!!

For the future, always have a thermometer at home. You can make hand sanitizer with grain alcohol (160%), here it is sold where liquor is sold. Mix 60% with 40% aloe vera gel. I have a bottle of it, and after any contact I use that all over my hands and back of my hands for 20 seconds, then use baby wipes to clean my hands. It was awkward going to the pharmacy yesterday when I was really sick, I wore a mask, gloves, and latex gloves over those. The pharmacy people were very overloaded and grouchy yesterday. I heard the Emergency has a minimum 3 hour wait.

I actually do have a thermometer myself but I was trying to buy one for an elderly neighbour who lives on her own and can't get out much. I know it's always wise to have these things but not everyone covers all eventualities so when you need to buy one or renew they should be available especially when there is a pandemic.

This is not being handled well. Only two weeks ago Trump said it was a hoax!!! Here on Hawaii Island there is a non stop influx of foreign visitors flying in and coming on those wicked cruise ships. Probably half the people on the island at any time.

I'm a bit psychic. For a few months I'd had the thought to buy sanitiser, and disinfectant wipes, but never did. Too late now I guess.

They are ignoring the entire scientific and epidemiology community’s clear instructions. You are QUITE sane. You have to take care of yourself and stand up for your health. It’s terrible. It’s not even contracting this - it’s that the health system will overload and you won’t be able to get any services. So, be prepared and self-isolate per the experts. It’ll pass in 6-8 weeks.

Only trying to protect myself and those around me. Not currently ill with Coronavirus but have a sinus infection which has been going on for weeks. Just makes me mad. Both my adult children are youth workers and come into contact with lots of children every day. One of them still lives with us so it's beginning to look inevitable. Nevertheless I am hoping not. Thanks x

jell profile image
jell in reply to Biofreak

exactly - if we don't know if we have it we could potentially be self isolating for weeks, months even.

If we knew we had the virus we can at least go into the community safely after week two perhaps helping vulnerable neighbours too.

I'm sorry that you are in pain and feeling 'fed up'. It is a difficult time and the greed that is being shown is very upsetting. Afterall we all want other people to have and to use tissues, soap, hand sanitiser and food!

I cut a bar of soap into slivers and wrapped them individually in greaseproof paper. I carry one in my pocket for when there isn't soap about. I made santiser using the directions on wiki how - didn't have to buy anything to make it as all was in the house!

Im a prison officer, now in an open jail with almost 1000 men. Over a100 out every day working and my jail won't issue hand gel until we get a confirmed case!!! I had a Drs appointment yesterday ( cancelled, so over the phone) I asked him and he said tell them you need it asap!!!

It seems we are just rolling up to this!! Ridiculous.

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to woodstar1

You are quite right. You should be helped to protect yourself and others and your bosses should be ashamed of themselves for their lax attitude. Does your Dr think that telling them you need it asap is going to make a difference? Absolutely crazy 🙄

Recipe for hand sanitizer I have used in health for years: essential oil and purified water (or distilled water) 5 drops of essential oil for every 2 oz. water (60 cc's). I always overdo it a bit on the oil. put into small spray bottle.

Shake well before using. I carry it with me at all times.

If someone sneezes close by, I spray it in the air between us (toward myself, not them!).

Mix aloe vera gel (40%) and rubbing alcohol together (60%) add the lavender essence and you have hand sanitiser which will kill the coronavirus.

jell profile image
jell in reply to

and you need to rub it all over for 1 minute! Will not actually clean hands, fingernails etc.

Mmrr profile image
Mmrr in reply to grandma27

There is an alcohol based recipe posted on the forum, 60 % alcohol is required to kill the virus.

totally understand why people are buying extra - they are scared for themselves and their families and the way this government has responded to the pandemic is making it worse.

We don't know if we have it so we could be self isolating repeatedly for weeks on end.

We need testing for our own peace of minds to protect our vulnerable.

This government appear to believe we are mentally incapable so no information not preventative measures equals a flattening of the curve because it will stop panic so people will remember to wash their hands and the elderly will not go on cruises.. Odd.

Delay phase - The Tory Social Care Plan..

Get rid of the sick, elderly, vulnerable, overtly with Covid-19

"Countries should find and test every case of coronavirus to stop the pandemic", the World Health Organization has said a day after the UK announced that only the most seriously ill will be tested.

“You can’t fight a virus if you don’t know where it is,” the WHO’s director general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Biofreak profile image
Biofreak in reply to jell

Now the government are not going to test people with symptoms, I fail to see how they can possibly know how many people have been infected until of course their symptoms get worse by which time it may well be too late for some who have self isolated. So the government will only have figures when people reach that stage or die.

These are my sentiments entirely. There are no public conveniences because the councils have been shutting them down due to austerity measures and not having any money to keep them open. Those public conveniences that are available are in bus stations etc and you have to pay to use them and, when you go into them they don't have soap and the water is cold or rationed to a trickle!

I've just watched Channel 4 news and the first baby to die from Covid19 has happened within hours of being born and the child's mum has tested positive. This is so wrong!!!

TT.
